            Michael Sullivan Sr., is an enforcer to John Rooney, an Irish-American crime boss in Rock Island, Illinois, during the Great Depression. Raised by by Rooney since he was an orphan, Michael has worked for the crime boss most of his life, and builtOne evening, Sullivan and Rooney's son Connor, are sent to talk with a disgruntled employee, named Finn McGovern. Curious as to what his father's unexplained job is, twelve-year-old Michael Sullivan Jr stows away in his father's car, attempting to learn more about his enigmatic father's ambiguous profession. At the location, Michael Jr witnesses Connor's impulsive killing of McGovern, and is soon after discovered by his father and Connor. Although Michael swears that his son will tell no-one about what he saw, Connor is not convinced.After the killing, John Rooney sends Michael to collect a debt from a speakeasy owner, but the owner is informed secretly by Connor to kill Michael, thus eliminating his debts to the Rooney's. The attempt to silence Michael fails, and finding the correspondence Connor wrote, Michael tears off back home...where he finds his wife Annie and youngest son Peter having been murdered by Connor. Michael Jr was not home at the time due to a school altercation, and thus was spared from Connor's actions.Taking his son and fleeing to Chicago, Michael requests assistance from a Lieutenant in Al Capone's crime syndicate, named Frank Nitti. It is here that Michael learns that Connor is already under protection from Capone and his men. After the meeting Nitti informs John and Connor of Michael's visit, leading to hire an assassin named Harlan Maguire, who is tasked with killing both the father and son.Following the meeting, Michael Sr's plan is to take his son to Perdition in Michigan, where his mother's sister lives. However, plans change when Harlan catches up to the two at a diner, and almost kills them. Realizing that they are now being pursued, Michael Sr realizes they can't find peace until Connor Rooney is dead.After training Michael Jr how to drive a car, Michael Sr then begins a string of bank robberies across the state, but only robbing the banks of mob-money being held by Capone, hoping this will pressure the mobster into giving up Connor.Instead, he soon learns that Capone has gotten wise to his actions, and have withdrawn their money from several banks. From here, Sullivan then tracks down Rooney's accountant, Alexander Rance. However, this turns out to be a trap as Maguire walks in on Sullivan and almost kills him! In the aftermath, Rance is killed and Maguire suffers an injury to his face, as Sullivan is shot in the arm but makes off with some of Rance's paperwork!Michael Jr doesn't get far driving his father, before Michael Sr slumps over! Stopping at a farm in the countryside, the couple living there manage to help the two lay low and recuperate. During this time, Michael begins looking through the papers he got from Rance's hotel room, and finds out that Connor had been embezzling money from his father under the names of gang members that he had murdered.Michael then goes off to visit John Rooney in secret, and tells him what he has found out about Connor. John reveals that he knows what his son has done, but even with this evidence, he will not surrender his son. This revelation leads to Michael making an important decision.Soon afterward, Michael ambushes John Rooney and his bodyguards in the street, picking them off with his Thompson sub-machine gun from an alley before approaching Rooney face to face."I'm glad it's you," John says quietly, before Sullivan Sr. tearfully kills the man who was like a father to him.With John Rooney dead, Capone is bereft of any reason to protect Connor. Michael contacts Frank Nitti again, who gives him Connor's location, on the condition that this will end Sullivan's 'feud.' Michael is then allowed access to Connor's hotel room, where he kills Connor, before leaving.Michael and his son then head off to Perdition, Michigan, where they find a house along the sandy shores of Lake Michigan.Michael Sr goes into the house, but is ambushed by Maquire, who had been laying in wait for the two. Michael Jr appears, and attempts to shoot Maguire, but not before Michael Sr does. A few moments later, Michael Jr watches as his father dies in his arms.Following his father's death, Michael Jr returns to the farm family who helped him and his father, where he assumed the life of a farmer's son.
    

Road to Perdition


            Thursday, August 28, 1980Jake Bradford (Blake Jenner) arrives at his college three days before the start of classes. He enters the baseball house to the members of the team. He first meets McReynolds (Tyler Hoechlin) and Roper (Ryan Guzman), who both razz Jake for being a pitcher. He goes upstairs and meets Jay (Juston Street), Finnegan (Glen Powell), stoner Willoughby (Wyatt Russell), Dale (J. Quinton Johnson), fellow freshman Plummer (Temple Baker), and his roommate Billy, aka Beuter (Will Brittain). He's called that by the other guys to have the most "country bumpkin" name they could think of.Jake joins McReynolds, Plum, Finn, and Dale as they go around campus inviting girls to a party at their house. The guys drive by a girl named Beverly (Zoey Deutch) and her roommate (Sophia Taylor Ali). Although neither are taken by the guys' attempts to hit on them, Beverly comments that she likes "the quiet one in the back" (Jake).The guys then go to the nearby bar, The Fox, where they meet other players on the team, Nesbit (Austin Amelio), Brumley (Tanner Kalina), and Coma (Forrest Vickery). They all drink and exchange banter.The team meets with the coach to discuss the rules of the house. That is mainly no drinking and no girls allowed in the rooms, which all the guys find lame.The guys go out to the nightclub 'Sound Machine' and dance with some girls. Dale points out that Finn has a move where he tells girls that he has an average penis size to seem humble, as opposed to guys that love to brag about their size. They end up taking the girls back to the house for a party. McReynolds, Roper, Jay, and Finn all go to their rooms to hook up with girls. Jake wants to bring his girl up to his room, but Beuter and his buddies don't wanna leave, so Jake takes her to his car.On Friday morning, Beuter heads back home for a couple of days because he worries his girlfriend might be pregnant. Later, the guys hang out around town, such as at the arcade where Jake shows Dale the trick to winning at Space Invaders, which is to get the aliens when they reach the last row since they won't shoot at the player.The guys go back to Sound Machine that night, but they're forced to leave when Jay gets drunk and rowdy, attempting to pick a fight with a bartender. The team heads to a country music club without Jay, for fear that he'll scare away the ladies. At the country club, Jake feels out of place, but Willoughby tells him that he has to embrace his inner weirdness, and not be the person that the others want him to be.Come Saturday, Jake joins Willoughby, Dale, and Plum in Willoughby's room as they take hits from his bong and discuss "The Twilight Zone" and Van Halen, among other things. They try some "telepathic stuff", with the guys trying to guess what Willoughby is thinking of.Jake plays ping-pong with McReynolds with some of the other guys watching. Jake beats McReynolds, who gets angry and chucks his paddle at the wall, breaking it. The other guys start to chant Jake's name.Jake, Plum, Finn, and Brumley walk around the neighborhood and run into Jake's high school buddy Justin (Michael Monsour). He invites the guys inside his home for some beers, and he later brings them to a punk rock club where the guys watch Justin's band play a punk rock version of the "Gilligan's Island" theme song.The guys throw another party at the house that night, wherein some girls participate in a mud-wrestling event, with Finn joining in and getting slammed into the mud by one of the girls. Meanwhile, Jake leaves some flowers and a note on Beverly's door.On Sunday morning, Jake receives a phone call from Beverly, and the two are now properly acquainted. She is surprised to learn that he is on the baseball team, as she originally believed that athletes were dumb, but she sees him differently. The two arrange a meeting for that day. Jake takes Beverly out for ice cream, and he learns that she is studying performing arts and has experience at an acting school.In the afternoon, the team gathers for baseball practice. Jay once again goes overboard with his behavior, such as throwing the ball into the parking lot and just acting like a jerk toward the other guys. After practice, the older teammates tape Jake, Plum, Brumley, and Nesbit to the wall as a freshman hazing ritual where they throw baseballs at the guys, one of which hits Plum in the nuts. After that, the team heads down to the lake for a swim.The guys go to the cafeteria for some grub. Dale comments to the freshmen that the older guys like McReynolds and Roper don't really care about the freshman and would love to see them fail. Plum and Nesbit then come in to tell the guys that Willoughby got kicked out of school after it was learned that he is really a 30-year-old guy that frequently transfers to different colleges to play baseball, and that his name isn't even Willoughby. The only thing they found in his room was a Pink Floyd album with a big joint on top of it (which Plum and Nesbit smoked). The guys figure that "Willoughby" was just a guy that didn't have what it took to go pro, but loved baseball so much that he wanted to play however he could.That night, the guys go to a party at another house, which happens to be a costume party. Jake finds Beverly dressed as Alice (in Wonderland). Finn tries his "average penis" bit on one girl but gets cock-blocked by the other guys. Later, the guys watch Beverly act out a "Dating Game" improv show as Alice, with two other guys as The Mad Hatter and The Queen of Hearts. Jake steps in as The Cheshire Cat. Afterward, he and Beverly hang out into the early hours of Monday by the lake and have their first kiss.As classes are about to begin, Jake sleeps in Beverly's room for a bit as she gets ready. They walk to their classes together before separating and kissing again. Dale and Finn see this and tease him. Jake then heads to his first class and sits next to Plum. The two are confident about what college will bring them. As class starts, Jake puts his head down on his desk to sleep and he smiles.

Can You Keep a Secret?


            Sean (Graham Kosakoski), Ritch (Brody Harms), Wes (Tyler Hoechlin), and Lauren (Kate Todd) celebrate their college graduation by breaking into Saranoc Grotto, a forest in Winnepeg province heavily marked with "No Trespassing" signs and surrounded by a tall fence. While speeding down a dirt road, they hit and kill a grizzly bear cub, sending their Jeep Cherokee into a tree and cracking the radiator. As they argue over whether they should bury the dead cub, they hear its mother coming and run. The vehicle overheats down the road so Wes and Ritch go into the forest to find water. The grizzly bear finds and attacks Ritch. Having heard Ritch's screams to run, Wes inadvertently runs into the bear and it attacks him. The other two arrive and rescue Wes, but are unable to help Ritch. The Bear kills him while the others flee to the Jeep.The vehicle starts again and they leave, but Wes panics and tries to force Sean to turn around and go back for Ritch, causing the car to go over a cliff. Ritch, being more calm, wants to wait for help, but no one knows where they are because they had told their families they were going somewhere else. They winch the vehicle back up to the road, but they cannot get it to start.Sean leaves to jog the 15 kilometers (around 9.3 miles) out of the forest to find help while Wes and Lauren wait at the Jeep. He comes across some run down abandoned buildings where he finds a hunting paraphernalia, a bear trap, and dead animals. As he leaves, the bear appears. He tries to sneak past the bear, but instead he runs into the bear and it throws him on the roof of the shack and then he falls into a chicken coop. Hours later he makes it back to the Jeep, but his leg is injured.Wes decides to climb a tall hill on the other side of the clearing to see if he can get a signal on his cell phone. It does not work and the bear nearly catches him. He quickly climbs back down and gets back to the Jeep though it still will not start. He and Lauren hide in the Jeep with the wounded Sean in the back.The bear follows and climbs on top of the Jeep, smashing up the car and eventually overturning it before leaving as the sun sets. Sean wakes up and tells them about the hunting paraphernalia, crying about wanting to go home before he dies. Wes and Lauren turn the Jeep right side up, load him back in the car, then push the Jeep down the hilly road as a thunderstorm hits. Using the downward momentum and occasionally pushing, they arrive near the buildings. While Lauren is exploring the building with the trap, the bear swings at her through a window sending her back against the trap, which impales her back. She returns to the vehicle where the bear rips off the tailgate and drags away Sean's body.Wes grabs a can of gasoline and pours a trail from the Jeep to the woods. They lure the bear to it and then set the gasoline on fire. The Jeep explodes, but the bear is unharmed. They decide to try another plan and split up. Wes climbs a tree, leaving his blood covered clothes on the ground to fool the bear. While the bear is sniffing at the clothes, Wes accidentally drops a tire iron, calling the bear's attention up. The bear shakes him out of the tree but he escapes and goes to the shack where Lauren has built a trap. They lure the bear into the shack, and use a trigger to close the front door behind it, locking it in. They celebrate and start to leave but the bear breaks out of the shack and they both try to escape. Unfortunately, Wes stumbles and Lauren tries to get him back up, refusing to leave him behind despite his desperate insistence that she should run and try to save herself. As the bear catches up to them, Wes is mauled and killed. Lauren finally makes a run for it, but the bear quickly catches up to her and kills her too.
