Takaya was born in Canberra, Australia. He moved when he was still very little to Sydney, Australia where he still lives. He was brought up on the North Shore and Northern Beaches attending Barker College for the majority of his schooling. He had always felt that he loved performance but only considered it as a career after studying Drama.He played Puck in his year 12 production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and subsequently went on to play the role for another 6 years. He performed the role in 2008 in a production by the Epicentre Theatre Company, at the Zenith Theatre in Chatswood. Then for Sport For Jove Theatre Company at the 'Shakespeare in the Rose Garden', The Leura Shakespeare Festival, The Sydney Hills Shakespeare in the Park, and The Sydney Morning Herald Autumn Festival of Arts Shakespeare in the Garden from 2009-2011.
