            Vishal Bhardwaj's adaptation of William Shakespeares 'Hamlet', Haider - a young man returns home to Kashmir on receiving news of his fathers disappearance. Not only does he learn that security forces have detained his father for harboring militants, but that his mother is in a relationship with his very own uncle. Intense drama follows between mother and son as both struggle to come to terms with news of his fathers death. Soon Haider learns that his uncle is responsible for the gruesome murder, what follows is his journey to avenge his fathers death.

            The small town of Chanderi is haunted by an evil spirit. This vengeful spirit "Stree" haunts the streets of Chanderi during the days of a certain puja (festival), preying on men. Nescient of this tale a tailor in Chanderi, Vicky (Rajkummar Rao) falls for a mysterious new town girl (Shraddha Kapoor) despite warnings from his friends who think that this girl could be that evil spirit. A friend of (Rajkummar Rao) Vicky's, Jaana is stripped naked and taken away, following "Stree's" M.O. Vicky then tries to find out more about this folklore and in his journey, he comes across a book in the library of their local pundit Rudra (Pankaj Tripathi). A picture catches his eye and realizing that he knows that place, he decides to go there for further clues along with Rudra and his friend Bittu (Aparshakti Khurana). "Stree" attacks Vicky but is driven away by the mysterious girl (Shraddha Kapoor) with a special dagger and her knowledge of the mystic arts. On their way back, Vicky gets his lost friend back who under the spell of the witch's spirit removes all the protection charms that were painted on the town's homes to ward off the evil spirit. The next morning around 20 men have mysteriously vanished into thin air. Vicky and his group attempt to find out more about "Stree" by meeting the author of the book, who when asked for a solution gives them a riddle that clearly points out towards Vicky being the town's only hope, their messiah, only he wields the power to stop this vengeful spirit by fulfilling the spirit's only wish, which according to them is to make love. The gang on Shraddha Kapoor's advice plans to kill "Stree" but Vicky decides to have mercy on her when he gets to know the real reason that "Stree" had been haunting the town for. Cutting off her braid, which apparently renders a witch's evil spirit powerless, he saves the town and all its male residents. Vicky's mysterious friend, (Shraddha Kapoor) is seen at the bus stop, the next day, where Vicky bids her farewell, without even knowing her name, while on the bus, the mysterious girl is seen carrying that witch's braid which she then places over her own hair and both merge as if it was her own hair all along and she disapparates, leaving the viewers guessing whether or not the character portrayed by Shraddha Kapoor was actually the spirit (Stree) that haunted Chanderi or a different one who just wanted to obtain powers for herself, which the writers have promised to unveil in the next part of this movie. The closing scene shows the witch hovering at the outskirts of Chanderi again the following year but this time at the town entrance, she finds her statue with the words engraved "O stree, raksha karna" which means, "O Deity, protect us" thus ending with a powerful message about female power a reminder of the norms that a society should abide by, that without respecting women a society can never thrive and prosper.

            The film begins by showing a large crowd waiting for Rahul Jaykar (Aditya Roy Kapoor) a successful pop singer whose career is waning because of his alcohol addiction to perform at a stage show in Goa. After nearly completing a song, he is unexpectedly interrupted by Aryan (Salil Acharya) during his performance, Rahul fights him, stops his performance, and drives to a local bar. He meets Aarohi Keshav Shirke (Shraddha Kapoor), a Maharashtrian bar singer who idolizes Rahul. After noticing Aarohi looking at a photograph of Lata Mangeshkar in the bar, he assumes that she wants to become a singer. Impressed by her simplicity and voice, Rahul promises to transform her into a singing sensation, and asks her to never perform again in bars. Aarohi quits her job and returns to Mumbai with Rahul, who convinces record producer Saigal (Mahesh Thakur) to meet her. When Aarohi calls Rahul, he is attacked and injured by some unknown people, and is unable to receive her call. His friend and manager Vivek (Shaad Randhawa) says that news of Rahul's accident should not be leaked to the media, and instead publicises a false story that Rahul has left the country to participate in stage shows. When Aarohi attempts to contact Rahul again, Vivek ignores the calls. After two months of fruitlessly attempting to contact Rahul, a broken Aarohi is forced to sing in bars again because of her family problems.After recovering from his injuries, Rahul vows to search for Aarohi. He learns that Aarohi is working in a bar again and that Vivek had ignored her calls without informing him. Rahul apologizes to Aarohi and sacks Vivek, and they meet with Saigal for the recording agreement. Rahul begins to train Aarohi, who signs a music contract to sing in films and becomes a successful playback singer. Her family and Rahul are happy. But one day, he goes to a bar and watches Aarohi winning the award but two men who is in the bar begin to gossip that Rahul is using her as a servant. Hearing this he relapses into alcohol addiction. Aarohi, who loves Rahul more than her career, comforts him and make love. Despite Aarohi's mother's disapproval, Aarohi moves in with Rahul and things go well until Rahul's addiction worsens, causing him to become aggressive and violent.To help Rahul fight his alcoholism, Aarohi attempts to rehabilitate Rahul, sacrificing her singing career in doing so. After Saigal reminds them about their dream of Aarohi becoming a successful singer, Rahul orders her to focus on her work. During Aarohi's stage show, Rahul meets a journalist backstage, who accuses him of using Aarohi for pleasure and money. Furious, Rahul beats up the journalist and starts drinking. He ends up in the police station, and Aarohi comes to get him out. Rahul overhears Aarohi telling Saigal that she is going to sacrifice her career for him and is ready to give up her celebrity status because Rahul is more important to her. Rahul thinks that he has become a burden in her life, and that leaving her is his only option to save her. The next day he bids her farewell and commits suicideDistraught by Rahul's death, Aarohi decides to quit her career but Vivek persuades her to stay. He reminds her that Rahul wanted her to become a successful singer and has given his life as he did not want to be a burden on her. Aarohi agrees, and resumes her career as a singer. Later, she signs her name as "Aarohi Rahul Jaykar" in a fan's handbook as a tribute to Rahul and her unsung desire to marry him. As rain starts falling, she watches the couple who took her autograph sharing a romantic moment under a jacket as she and Rahul had done when he was alive.

            The movie starts with Aisha Verma (Shraddha Kapoor) calling her husband and leaving a message for him. A mysterious man in a hood breaks into her house, murders her with a screwdriver, and throws her out of the window. At her funeral, CBI officer Aditya Rathore (Shaad Randhawa) points out to the police that it is vital to track down the murderer or else Guru (Sidharth Malhotra), Aisha's husband, would go on a killing spree. Here Guru's background is shown in flashbacks, along with how he meets Aisha. Guru, in the past, was a ruthless killer working for gangster Caeser (Remo Fernandes), in Goa, after he joined Caesar's group following Caesar's audacity to give Guru a chance to murder the goons who killed his parents. He gets arrested for killing a young man, but ultimately gets bailed, as the man's mother, a witness, refuses to testify against Guru. She however warns Guru that one day God would make him pay for his crimes and he will also end up losing a loved one.Guru meets Aisha, a free spirited girl in love with life, who requests him to help her with reuniting two aged lovers. They soon become friends and Aisha reveals to him that she has a terminal illness, and tells him about her bucket list. Guru helps her fulfill most of those wishes but her health deteriorates. They fall in love and get married. He tries every means to save her. She receives treatment in Mumbai and miraculously recovers. Few days later she discovers she is pregnant but the doctor tells her that she might die while delivering the baby. She conceals this fact from Guru. In a parallel story, Rakesh Mahadkar (Riteish Deshmukh) is an unsuccessful and henpecked man who is constantly nagged and ridiculed by his wife Sulochana (Aamna Sharif) for being useless and poor. He vents out his frustration by murdering women who speak rudely to him, and Aisha turns out to be one of them.In present day, Guru aims to track down Aisha's killer. After finding out that it was not Caeser behind the murder, he finally tracks down Rakesh, while he is assaulting another victim. Guru beats Rakesh brutally but later admits him to a hospital and pays for the expenses, intending to return. While at the hospital, Guru finds out that Aisha was pregnant which makes him angrier. While assaulting a nurse who had earlier spoken rudely to him, Rakesh is again intercepted by Guru who almost kills him, but revives him again after delivering an adrenaline shot and sets him free. Meanwhile, the police finds out the truth about Rakesh and takes his wife for questioning. Rakesh realizes that Guru is Aisha's husband as she had begged him not to kill her by saying that she is pregnant and Guru is taking revenge.Rakesh, who now knows Guru's identity, taunts him over the phone before killing Aisha's father, and then surrenders to Aditya. Rakesh expects Guru to kill him so that he would become a "hero" in the eyes of his wife and everyone else, while Guru would become a "villain". However, Caesar calls Guru at that moment and says that he has killed Rakesh's wife and asks Guru to finish off his son. Enraged, Rakesh injures Guru and is about to kill him when he is run over by a car and dies on the spot. Guru later adopts Rakesh's son instead of killing him, and completes the remaining wishes on Aisha's bucket list.

            Suresh (Varun Dhawan) wants to be a big dancer to fulfill his mother's wish. Vinnie (Shraddha Kapoor) wants to be the best hip-hop dancer. They are childhood friends. They form a team and participate in a national level competition where they are disqualified as their moves match the original moves and everyone call them cheaters. Everyone departs to search for jobs. Suresh works in a bar as waiter and Vinnie joins a beauty parlour where they are both insulted as cheaters. Suresh plans to remove the negative tag by winning the hip-hop competition in Las Vegas. One day he watches Vishnu (Prabhudeva) dance in the bar and convinces him to be their choreographer. They audition for people and collect the team. They participate in the qualifiers in Bangalore and win it. Later they go to Las Vegas, but it is revealed that Vishnu has ulterior motives to go to Vegas. In Las Vegas they win qualifiers. Later Vishnu leaves the hotel with the money to meet his son. His son's mother is married to another man and has moved on in life. He talks to his child and leaves. He comes back later and they enter the final. In the meantime, Vinnie gets injured and is replaced by Olive (Lauren Gottlieb). She becomes close with Suresh and a jealous Vinnie tells Suresh that she loves him. The team enters the final, where they make a mistake in the formation and fall down. They don't give up and come back and do the formation once again. They ultimately lose the competition but they have won the hearts of millions.

            The film opens with Ronnie running towards a corpse and grieving the person's death before Siya arrives at the spot. A flashback begins.15 years ago, young Ronnie used to protect his innocent elder brother Vikram from those bothering him. When Vikram got beaten up and troubled by some boys, Ronnie arrived and rescued him by fighting off the boys. His father, Inspector Charan Chaturvedi, didn't approve of his behavior. One day, Charan went out to rescue people from a riot and ended up getting fatally shot. He made Ronnie promise to be Vikram's protector forever, which he did. Following their father's death, Ronnie and Vikram grew up together with their uncle, also a police officer.Years later, some goons trouble Vikram in a movie theater after he mistakenly spoils their leader's shirt. Siya, who has just met him, tries to help him but the goons beat him up. Ronnie arrives to help him and sensing threat decides to leave with an apology. However, when he sees blood near Vikram's ears, Ronnie beats up the goons and is about to nearly kill one of them, before Vikram and their uncle stop him. The uncle offers a police job to the brothers, and Vikram declines. With a number of cases registered against him, Ronnie tells Vikram he can't join the police force. He convinces Vikram to become a police officer in Agra. Upon joining his duty, he sees the henchmen of a criminal named IPL burn a man to death in front of the police. Vikram is terrified and expresses disgust at the cops' failure to stop the criminals. He learns an elder cop in their station just thought of bringing those criminals to justice and suffered the consequences by seeing his daughter get killed by one of the criminals.It is then revealed IPL works for a Syrian terrorist named Abu Jalal Gaza who kidnaps families to use them for terrorism. Soon, the cops find out about the location where IPL's men have kidnapped families. Since one of them has to necessarily go, Vikram is made the scapegoat but with Ronnie's assurance, he goes alone at the location. Ronnie meets him secretly, and instructs him to turn lights on and off upon hearing him whistle every single time. Using this technique, Ronnie fights off the henchmen and helps Vikram rescue the kidnapped families. This process is repeated, and Vikram soon becomes a famous cop. Learning that his henchmen are unable to stop Vikram, IPL instructs them to kidnap Ronnie, whom they believe to be an innocent and timid man. They succeed in kidnapping him and ask Vikram to come with the seized commodity and rescue Ronnie. The elder cop tells Vikram to go and save Ronnie, who pretends to be scared and tells Vikram via phone to come in 10 minutes. During that time, IPL instructs his henchmen to chop Ronnie's thumb if Vikram doesn't show up, and leaves. However, Ronnie fights them all off and lets Vikram arrest the goon (who killed the elder cop's daughter). When the goon is being taken to court, Ronnie and Vikram stage a fake arrest sequence in which Ronnie is taken in and cuffed with the goon. During the traffic jam, Ronnie runs with the goon, and Vikram hands over the elder cop a gun to shoot the goon. The goon is killed publicly.Vikram continues to gain popularity and respect for his sincere behavior. After getting married with Siya's sister Ruchi, Vikram is told by the government to go for a routine paperwork in Syria. Happily leaving behind Ronnie, Siya and a pregnant Ruchi with a promise to return soon, Vikram goes to Syria and during a video call tells Ronnie someone picked his pocket as he couldn't be recognized as a cop. When there's a knock on the door, Vikram goes to attend it and gets brutally beaten up. Seeing this on camera, Ronnie pleads the men to spare Vikram, but they don't comply. Ronnie vows to rip apart their self-made nation if anything happens to Vikram, and hiding the truth from Ruchi, arrives in Syria with Siya. They try to enlist police help, but to no avail. A Pakistani man named Akhtar Lahori helps the duo track Vikram when Ronnie recalls Vikram's pocket was picked. Vikram's wallet is found with a pickpocket, and the cops start chasing after the trio who visit Vikram's hotel room to find Vikram's damaged phone. The cops arrive at the hotel to catch the trio, who successfully escape. The trio then starts to search for Vikram with his photos in their hands, and end up finding the attacker. Ronnie beats him up and chases him, exhausting him in the process. Ronnie pleads him to tell Vikram's location. However, the attacker gets hit by a truck and dies.The opening scene then plays again, and the story continues from there.Siya retrieves the attacker's phone from his corpse and texts IPL to meet him at a hotel, where Abu Jalal Gaza, the attacker's brother, has also arrived to kill Ronnie (unaware that it's him). He tells IPL that he has been texted by the killer instead of his brother, and leaves upon seeing the cops arrive. The main cop, however, sides with Ronnie and team, and captures IPL while Jalal escapes in disguise. Feeling IPL might betray him since he has been captured, Jalal orders his men to follow the police vehicle carrying IPL and kill him. Ronnie and team stage a series of events making Jalal's henchmen believe IPL has switched sides. The henchmen attempt to kill him, and Ronnie rescues him. Feeling betrayed himself, IPL decides to expose Jalal's plans. It is then revealed that Vikram's friend Asif and his family have also been kidnapped and kept with him. Asif is made to carry a bomb and explode it in return for his family's safety. However, Siya arrives and the police frees Asif's family while she tells him to stop and gets the bomb removed. Ronnie, on the other hand, attacks Jalal's army in the ensuing prolonged battle. He blows up vehicles, crashes helicopters and battles gunfire with an improvised shield. On the other hand, armed hostages rescued by Ronnie are being taken safely by IPL and Lahori while a girl steps on a landmine. IPL quickly switches positions with the girl, and forces Lahori to leave with the hostages. IPL sacrifices himself when Jalal's henchmen show up, and he steps off the landmine, killing everyone in the explosion. Ronnie then arrives at the spot where Vikram has been held captive. He fights off some of the henchmen, and Jalal (who met Ronnie at the hotel and promised him to find his brother without knowing him) frees everyone including Vikram, but takes Siya hostage. As Vikram and Siya are caged, Ronnie starts fighting but gets badly hit. While trying to fight back, he sees a sudden transformation in Vikram, who is now enraged to see Ronnie get beaten. Ronnie smiles and stops fighting back, eventually getting stabbed. Vikram escapes from the cage and beats the henchmen to death with a stone, and impales Jalal on steel rods.Freeing Siya from the cage, Vikram tries to revive Ronnie but nearly fails, with both believing he has succumbed to his wounds. However, as Jalal arrives to attack them, Ronnie suddenly gets up and strangles him to death. Back in India, Vikram is honored for his bravery while Ronnie imagines his father saluting him for keeping his promise and hugging him.
