
            A mysterious man at a pigeon shelter feeds his pigeons and sets one free. The pigeon flies to the window where nuclear oncologist Dr. Nirupama is in a therapy session as suggested by her friend Bindu. The therapist learns from her that she's unhappy with marriage to her uninteresting and bland husband Vishwanath, who is a dance teacher. Nirupama has recently been in a relationship with her boss Depak, which although having feelings for him also feels guilty about betraying Vishwanath. For this reason under Bindu's advice, she hires a detective named Peter to spy on Viswhanath and find out if he too is having some kind of affair or something else to hide in order to ease her guilt. One night, Vishwanath invites his student Ashmitha Subramaniam, his uncle Jagganath, and his and Jagganath's close friend John Dawkins to brief an unknown mission. Viswhanath confirms that he's somehow aware of Nirupama's affair with Deepak and pretends not to know. Nirupama stays with Deepak at the office late that night and helps him stock up money in his safe, which also contains a gun and thus suggesting caution in his surroundings.The next day Vishwanath and his group do surveillance in the city and Peter follows him after he prays in an Islamic worship place, and the detective discloses this to Nirupama telling him that her husband has hidden his true religion as a Muslim. Viswhanath looses Peter at a trailer complex where he crosses paths with Farukh, a man whom Vishwanath has been tracking for reasons unknown. Farukh becomes suspicious of Peter and kills him. He informs his higher authority Salim, a close friend and partner to the faction's leader Omar Quereshi. They find Peter's diary with information on his clients including Nirupama and that she works for Deepak. Deepak, as instructed by his associates Omar, Salim and Farukh, confronts Nirupama about why she supposedly sent the detective to Farukh. Peter is announced as a murder victim on the news on that night and both Nirupama and Deepak believe Vishwanath has something to do with it, as well as the fact that he lost Peter at the trailer and has hidden that he's Islamic. Deepak calls Farukh and they abduct the couple and take them to a warehouse. Farukh interrogates Vishwanath and demands to know who he is and why he ventured to the trailer park. Vishwanath is uncooperative and seemingly ignorant of the situation, leading to him getting beaten. Under Omar's suspicion and order, Farukh murders Deepak and wonders who Vishwanath really is after Omar seemingly recognizes him from his haunted past. Vishwanath begs Farukh a chance to pray and tricks him into unbinding his hands.Moments after Vishwanath is freed, he gets up and brutally slaughters all the soldiers in the warehouse including Farukh. He and Nirupama escape before Omar and Salim arrive. When the two do arrive, Salim wonders how Vishwanath was possibly able to defeat so many men, and Omar reminds him that he once trained alongside them in the Al Qaeda which Salim remembers. Vishwanath's real name is Wisam Ahmed Kashmiri, an apparent fugitive and traitor of the Indian army who is revered in his fighting skill and persistence and comes to serve as a jihadi under Omar. He becomes close friends with Omar and Salim in Afghanistan at the time and is introduced to the ways of his people, including their dedication to war and the hardships they and their families face during it. He gets to know Omar's family and friends, including the village leader Nasser and a young fellow jihadi Mammu. He also gets to know Kadhija, Omar's wife and Omar's son Nasser(same name as the village leader). Wisam mentors many soldiers and trains them to their extent. Along the way he realizes that families of the soldiers in the group cannot live their lives normally under constant pressure to serve Al Qaeda's cause and attacks by American fronts in the nation. Nasser, Omar's son, wishes to become a doctor inspired by Dr. Glara, who helped Kadhija get better from asthma. Similarly Omar's friend's son Jalal desires to learn engineering and Omar is disappointed in both for having different aspirations than serving Allah. After developing connections to the village, Wisam also comes to know that American forces have been threatening Omar's territory in search of American war hostages that he's keeping. Wisam sees up close the brutality of the soldiers when they murder one of the prisinors. A neighboring village is bombed for it and Omar retaliates by sending Mammu in guise of a woman, carrying bombs to the nearby military base. Mammu kills himself destroying the base, burdening Wisam once more with seeing a young man's life taken.The leaders of the warrior band meet the merchant Thawveeq, a trusted merchant and supplier and good friend of Omar. Thawveeq becomes acquainted with Wisam and gifts him imported opium which he puts away. The next day, Omar, Salim, and Wisam visit Osama Bin Ladin in his hiding place under the village, and at that moment the Americans attack the village. During that time Wisam also meets Munavar who is a spy for the group in Pakistan. The soldiers including head Nasser, Omar, Wisam, and Salim retaliate and fail to defend the civilians from the bombings. The house holding many of them including Jalal, Kadhija, and Nasser(Omar's son) get bombed and the soldiers retreat from the village leaving Wisam behind, who offers to stay behind and see whom he can help. The village leader Nasser also perishes in the attack leading to Omar having to take charge of what remains in the village. In the present, Wisam, Ashmita, Jaganath, and Dawkins preserve their pasts and try to clear confusion to Nirupama. They destroy information devices and drives and evacuate the house when the F.B.I attempts to apprehend them as tipped by Omar for Wisam's history and contribution to the warehouse attacks. Wisam, with little patience has his three friends, sans Dawkins make way to the city to escape the police. Dawkins is sent separately to take guise of Munavar who is tasked to go to an antique shop in order to recover record tapes and prints about a powerful cesium bomb that needs to be planted in the city.Captain Tom Black of the F.B.I arrests Wisam, Nirupama, and Ashmita when they head to the oncology research office. But just before, they find out that Deepak has been supplying Omar and his men with cesium weapons to fulfill their task in a serial bombing in New York. A flashback is seen after Nirupama question's Wisam's past in which it's revealed that Wisam was given a tracking device to lead American forces to Omar's village, thus leading to the air assault. However, Wisam's partner Imtiaz who is also undercover fails to remove it from Thwaveeq's bag where it was placed, leading to him being framed as a spy and beaten and executed, much to Wisam's regret. In the present, the characters confirm that many jihadis including Omar are injured and sick from handling cesium with their bare hands without care. Some patients were resting in the warehouse where they plot to commit a suicide bombing. Wisam, Nirupama, and Ashmita are interrogated by the police who give them a hard time believing they're working with the jihadis, but Jagganath confirms to the leader of the Indian embassy that Wisam is an undercover agent and Tom apologizes. Wisam helps Tom evacuate a school near the warehouse just before the cesium victims bomb the complex, and another bombing takes place at the apartment Omar lived in to divert the police's attention away from a stronger bomb in the middle of the city. As per a plan Omar discussed years prior when Wisam served the Al Qaeda, he attaches pills of cesium to the city's pigeons, killing them and sending radiation detectors haywire. Wisam and Nirupama trace a forgien supply of cesium weaponry to Abasi, a Nigerian customer who works for Omar. Abasi stations himself in an abandoned apartment with a powerful cesium bomb and the F.B.I stake out the complex. They silently infiltrate the building and shoot Abasi before he activates the bomb on Salim's command. Dawkins has obtained the files about the bomb before Munavar but Salim intercepts him and kills him in central park, and he and Omar having finished their work fly to India.Nirupama's knowledge of the bomb allows the police to use a microwave to shield incoming radio waves to prevent cellular detonation. Omar attempts to contact Abasi but Wisam responds on the phone that his plan has failed, leaving Omar and Salim shocked. Wisam is congratulated by the embassy in his work in Afghanistan and ending the assault on New York, and Nirupama believes the battle has been won. But Wisam claims that the war is between him and Omar and one of them must die for that to be true, and the group heads to confront him in India.

            Set in 1930s southern India against the backdrop of a growing nationalist movement, Before the Rains is the English language début of Indian director Santosh Sivan. An idealistic young Indian man (Rahul Bose) finds himself torn between his ambitions for the future and his loyalty to the past when people in his village learn of an affair between his British boss (Linus Roache) and a village woman (Nandita Das).
Before the Rains is adapted from Red Roofs, the longest of three unrelated stories in the Israeli director Dany Veretes 2002 film, Yellow Asphalt, which explored the collision of modern customs and tribal traditions in contemporary Israel. In that movie a wealthy Jewish farmer who has an affair with his Bedouin housekeeper forces his assistant, a Bedouin tribesman, to initiate drastic damage control once the relationship is detected. With a screenplay by Cathy Rabin, Before the Rains has been to moved to colonial India in 1937. The transition from one culture to another is seamless.
Moores, played by Mr. Roache with a cunning charm that masks an authoritarian severity, is carrying on a passionate affair with his housekeeper Sajani (Nandita Das), a beautiful, naïve woman who commutes from the village to work at his nearby ranch. One afternoon they are accidentally spied making love at a waterfall by two young boys from the village, who report seeing Sajani with an unidentified man.
When her husband, Rajat (Lal Paul), interrogates her, Sajanis evasive replies drive him into a fury and he savagely beats her, which under tribal law is within his rights. Since Mooress wife, Laura (Jennifer Ehle), has recently arrived from England with their son Peter (Leopold Benedict), Sajani has already become someone to be kept hidden, although Moores still swears he loves her.
But when Sajani shows up wounded at his door in the middle of the night, he insists she leave as soon as possible. The next day he hands her money and entrusts her to T. K., who is ordered to make sure that she leaves. Before departing, she asks Moores one last time if he loves her, and after a pause, he coldly answers no.
Before the Rains doesnt dawdle in sentimentality. As much as you sympathize with Sajanis hopeless plight she is a pariah with nowhere to go the film is a dispassionate study of how power, when threatened, ruthlessly exercises its prerogatives. For as long as he can get away with it, Moores lies to his wife about the reasons for the escalating turmoil. Nowadays its called stonewalling.
The movies most compelling figure is the unfailingly loyal T. K., who is instructed to violate native customs in a desperate cover-up. A stoic, taciturn man who loves his boss too much, he is a lost soul who has foolishly imagined he could keep one foot in the tribal world and the other in the modern.
But for all his ability at navigating between the two, T. K. is as naïve in his way as Sajani. The movie is too sophisticated to make Moores an evil caricature. He is simply the embodiment of the kind of power that when endangered reveals its true nature.             It's been a few days since the events of the first movie: R.A.W Espionage agent Wisam Ahmed Kashmiri and his wife Nirupama, apprentice and student Ashmitha, and his mentor Colonel Jagganath work with the N.Y.P.D to disable the cesium bomb planted by Wisam's old friend and later enemy Omar Quereshi, who leads a band of Al Qaeda warriors in a secret village appointed by the once hidden Bin Laden. The characters travel to India where Omar intends to run away to and strike next, but first they deliver the body of their friend John Dawkins to his family in England, who was murdered in New York by Omar's deputy Salim.During the flight, Wisam recalls how he first met Ashmita and becomes close partners with her. In order to set Wisam up for the infiltration in Afghanistan they must spoil his record, so under instruction of Jagganath and his mentor Gowswami, Wisam and Ashmita stage a supposed sexual assault on the latter leading Wisam to be dismissed from the force and jailed. Gowswami paroles Wisam and they portray him as a supposed fugitive on the run to get him to join Al Qaeda. Wisam joins the mission with Lieutenant Rai who is code-named Imtiaz. In the present day, the group meets an older Gowswami who expresses sorrow for Dawkin's passing and their close friendship. Gowswami states that he wishes Salim dead for his deed and about how he's always stated that he will die staring his enemy in the eye or vice versa. Nirupama also gets jealous on the car ride to their residence of Ashmita's friendship with Wisam. The group is contacted by Eshwar Iyer, Gowsami's boss and the man tasked with helping Wisam in dealing with Omar. The group particularly doesn't like him for being undisciplined and disloyal to his work and rather seeking attention. Wisam attempts to change the radio station from the romance music Ashmita played for them, and in a sudden turn of events he activates the parking break when he sees a man in the car in front of them pull out an anti-tank gun, leading to a crash. Ashmita is injured and Nirupama is unconcious, but Gowsami is fatally wounded. Wisam finds the gunman and kills him, and brings his body to Gowswami before he dies. A grevious Wisam falls asleep in which he flashes back to the American attack in Afghanistan, and how just before he suggested to Omar to allow Jalal and Nasser to follow their dreams instead of serving as soldiers.Wisam also confirms to Jagganath of the upcoming attack on the American military base that Mammu killed himself at but fails to prevent it, in addition to Thawveeq's execution. A few nights after the air bombing on the village, Omar asks for Salim and Wisam's loyalty to support him as the new village head. That night, Wisam is informed that Osama Bin Ladin is seeking security with Omar and has Imtiaz radio the control station to nab him. Eshwar and Jaaganath send American soldiers to the village when Omar catches Wisam signaling them. Omar expresses mistrust and anger at Wisam's treachery and betrayal, claiming that he killed his family and he was blind to it. Omar tells Wisam that his treachery will taint Omar's leadership and decides that he should kill him without the people knowing. Imtiaz rushes from the corner of the pueblo with a knife but Omar blocks his offence and shoots him. Wisam pins Omar and activates flares to signal the Americans to the village. Omar shoots Wisam and he is carried onto a rescue helicopter wounded. Omar is drawn back by gunfire from the helicopters which wound him and Wisam is put off the force and hospitalized for his wounds, so he signs off from the military for four years, afterwhich he meets Nirupama in New York and marries her for a normal life. However he resumes operation when a surviving Omar attempts revenge on America.In the present, Wisam, Ashmita, Nirupama, and Jagganath meet with Iyer at a hotel, who expresses disappointment with being unable to interrogate the gunman and criticizes Wisam's intentions and methods of handling the case. Iyer remains skeptical of Wisam's loyalty simply because he's a Muslim and working with his wife and partner. Wisam becomes offended of Iyer's prejudice and calls him out for being dishonest and stands his ground in his value in dealing with Omar. Iyer leaves unhappy and the moment he's gone, Ashmita and Wisam test the room for potential bugs. Iyer attempts to eavesdrop anything valuable he could use for his own gain but they inform Iyer on the other end that he won't outsmart them and destroys the bug, after-which Wisam discusses his awareness of Nirupama's affair with Deepak and they rekindle their differences.Ashmita calls Wisam and Nirupama downstairs to meet with Iyer and discuss the whereabouts of Omar and his intentions, but Wisam is surprised to see that he's with Munavar whom apparently doesn't recognize or pretends not to know Wisam. Confirming his suspicions that Iyer is in cahoots with Omar, Wisam heads to a recon bomb site in an abandoned building as instructed. Since the task is seemingly pointless, Wisam pretends to be locked in the basement and silently escapes the building before Iyer activates the bomb in the building with his phone and Wisam fails to respond. Wisam immediately calls Ashmita to tell him of Iyer's treachery as Iyer calls Munavar to dispose of Ashmita. Munavar overhears Wisam still being alive and escapes before Ashmita can apprehend him. Wisam calls Iyer and tells him that he will find and kill him. He also calls up Jagganath who's in the restroom and tells him to be careful of Iyer. Jagganath and Iyer simultaneously arm themselves with guns, and Jagganath shoots Iyer dead before he can be struck upon.The group meets with Wisam's friend Jim to find the whereabouts of Iyer and Munavar's illegally rented car and trace it to Sheerness. They find an ocean log book in the car leading to the sight of a ship wreckage in a harbor in Sheerness. The wreckage as described by Wisam was a ship lost in WW2 containing a shipment of explosives to the Axis forces. Wisam deduces that England is one of Omar's attack sites and that he intends to use a cesium bomb to trigger the explosives causing tsunami like flooding at the coasts. They arrive at the harbor and Nirupama, who has a certificate in SCUBA diving finds the bomb underwater. She and Wisam's men attempt to disable it. Wisam takes a break to use the restroom but finds Jim dead by stabbing since he went earlier. Wisam finds one of Iyers men hidden and attempting to detonate the bomb. Wisam fights the man and kills him, disabling the bomb just before it can explode.The team arrives in Dehli and after resting, Nirupama finds out just how much Wisam cares about her when he insists her upmost safety during the mission thrown at her, as told by Jagganath to one of his bosses Seshardri. After spending the night they meet Wisam's mother at a hospital, where Nirupama realizes she has Alzheimers and doesn't remember Wisam. She only remembers Wisam when he last joined the military but nothing more. Omar and Salim eventually arrive in India and Salim takes Nirupama and Ashmita hostage, and under disguise to avoid the guards watching over them.On the ride to Omar's place, Ashmita flips the driver's seat and pulls the parking break, flipping the car and wrecking it. Ashmita knocks out the driver and fights Salim, defeating him. But she's forced to stop when Salim's men hold Nirupama at gunpoint. Salim pins Ashmita and breaks her arm. Wisam is sent Ashmita's dismembered body and is ordered by Munavar to turn himself in to see Nirupama alive. Wisam is taken to Omar's residence and is knocked out by Salim. Wisam begs Omar to spare Nirupama, and he sends Nirupama to another building to be killed by Salim afterwards along with Wisam's mother who's been taken hostage. Omar grievously expresses sorrow over Khadija and his son Nasser's deaths. Wisam however reveals that Omar's family is in fact alive.During the American bombing, Wisam evacuates the remaining civilians including Nasser(Omar's son), Jalal, and Khadija into the helicopters, but he is discovered by the other Nasser(the village leader) who kills the remaining women and children before Wisam can save them. Wisam fights Nasser and several of his goons, and stabs the village leader in the heart as Omar's family leaves the village. Omar initially refuses to believe it but states that his family has betrayed Allah by living in America and must be killed too. Omar places a bomb on Wisam's neck with a forty second timer before departing.Salim and his men have Wisam's mother and Nirupama hostage as the bomb explodes, and Salim states that Wisam is dead. Salim proudly exclaims that Nirupama will be next, and that they have planted 64 bombs around the nation in celebration of India's independence and that they can be activated in one phone call with chain reaction. Suddenly, Wisam breaks into the room from the window and Salim immediately retaliates. Wisam brutally kills all of his men and injures Munavar, and eventually punching Salim in the throat, removing his voice. Salim questions Wisam's escape non-verbally in which it's revealed that Wisam broke out of his bonds and fought Omar. They were both knocked into a cooking pan below the building in a shack and the oil from the pot spills on Omar, setting him on fire. Omar burns in agony and gets run into by a truck, then Wisam escapes to find Salim. Wisam watches his former friend weep and die of his injuries.An injured Omar recovers in the hospital where Wisam brings his son Nasser, Jalal, and Khadija to visit him. Nasser and Jalal are all grown up and have respectively studied medicine and engineering. Wisam asks Omar if he would have allowed this considering he would have just sacrificed them for his beliefs. Omar admits and chants in Allah's name before dying, and Wisam and Nirupama depart the hospital in light that their war is over.
