Hostages


            Set in the year 1993, Cameron Post (Chloe Grace Moretz) is a high school junior. She lives with her Aunt Ruth (Kerry Butler) ever since her parents died. She attends Bible study and makes out with her best friend Coley (Quinn Shepherd) after school. At the homecoming dance, Cameron and Coley sneak away from the dance into their car where they smoke weed and start having sex... with Coley fingering Cameron. But they are interrupted when Cameron's homecoming date Jamie discovers them. Ruth finds out, presumably from Jamie, and distraught, decides to send Cameron to "God's Promise," a religious gay conversion camp for young people who "struggle with same-sex attraction."At the camp, Cameron meets the cheerful Reverend Rick (John Gallagher Jr.) who introduces her to her room and her roommate, Erin (Emily Skeggs), whose side of the room is decorated with Minnesota Vikings paraphernalia. He explains she will get decorating and mail privileges later on. He checks her bag, removing a cassette tape she brought, and makes her sign her contract with the facility. The students are known as "disciples." That night, Cameron dreams of the first time she had sex with Coley while they were watching a video, but is awoken by the staff's nightly flashlight checks into the room to make sure the disciples are in their rooms.The next day, Erin shows Cameron around the lunchroom and tells her about the other students. Erin is peppy and genuinely believes that God's Promise can fix her. She explains that Reverend Rick once too experienced same-sex attractions, but overcame them. On her first day of class, the director of the camp, Dr. Lydia Marsh (Jennifer Ehle) introduces herself to Cameron, welcoming her to God's Promise.Cameron goes for a run every morning, and one morning spies two other disciples, Adam (Forrest Goodluck) and Jane (Sasha Lane) sneaking into a cellar and smoking weed. Later, she has her first counseling session with Rick and Lydia. They give her a drawing of an iceberg, explaining that the same-sex attraction is the tip, but they need to examine the reasons underneath. They ask her to fill her iceberg out, and she goes and looks at the icebergs of other students, learning about how they ended up at God's Promise. Jane, a free spirit, catches her looking at hers, and tells Cameron to write whatever she thinks they want to hear. Cameron tells her she saw Jane and Adam smoking and asks where she got the weed. Jane tells her she grows it herself and invites her to join them sometime.While on a field trip, Cameron sees Jane steal a music cassette, and briefly decides to do the same - until she sees Erin spot her briefly. She puts the cassette back, but Erin insists on telling the adults, insisting she is doing it for Cameron's own good, trying to help her fight sin. Another disciple, Mark (Owen Campbell), helps convince Erin not to say anything and to keep it between them all. Erin begrudgingly agrees, and Cameron thanks Mark. Cameron begins hanging out with Adam and Jane regularly, going on long hikes. They share stories of their pasts, and Cameron wonders why they don't just leave. They explain that since their families sent them there, they have nowhere else to go - it's God's Promise or be on the streets. They also tell Cameron that Lydia is Rick's sister - she used to be a regular therapist until Rick became her patient zero. They ask Cameron about Coley, and Jane thinks it's unfair that Cameron is punished while nothing happened to Coley, but Cameron defends her.During a sharing group therapy exercise out in the football field, disciple Helen (Melanie Ehrlich) becomes angry because she feels Cameron isn't trying hard enough, which draws Lydia's attention. They press Cameron to talk about Coley, and when Cameron talks about how perfect she was as both a friend and lover, Lydia explains to Cameron that because she wanted to be like her, she confused it with being with her. Later alone, Lydia tells Cameron her success is dependent on her putting more work in.On another field trip, Cameron sneaks away and calls Coley, who asks if Cameron got the letter she sent. Cameron has to hang up before she can find out more. Later, a group of disciples is doing chores, and they change the radio from Christian music to "What's Going On." Cameron gets up on the table and leads her peers in a sing-a-long, but they are discovered by Lydia, who orders Cameron to come with her. She gives Cameron her mail, telling her she should read it. Inside is a letter from Coley, where she claims Cameron took advantage of their friendship to try to change her into a lesbian. It is here that Cameron realizes the Coley was the one who outed her and their sexual tryst to Aunt Ruth... not Jamie as Cameron assumed. She tells Adam and Jane and wonders if Coley is right about everything and if she is a messed up person. Jane tears up the letter and tells Cameron to forget about Coley, who was a rat and in denial to her sexual identity. But Cameron is still shaken and calls Ruth in tears, asking if she can come home. Ruth tells her no, that she's doing this for her own good and that she loves her.After that, Cameron starts putting more effort in. She fills in her iceberg and begins working out with Erin regularly to Christian-themed exercise videos. She has a dream where she is making out with her teacher but is shaken awake by Erin, who says she heard Cameron making noises and knows what she was dreaming about. Cameron denies it, but Erin won't back down and then kisses Cameron. The two frantically have sex until climax, but the moment it is over Erin shuts down and retreats to her own bed, telling Cameron she wants to get better.At a group therapy session, Mark, who had been scheduled to go back home at semester's end, reveals a letter from his father who refuses to let him come him. His father writes that he is still too effeminate and an embarrassment to him and the entire family. Mark begins screaming and throwing a fit while Lydia yells at him to calm down. That night, Cameron goes to use the bathroom and finds it covered in blood. The next day, the counselors tell the disciples that Mark tried to harm himself but was found by his roommate Adam and taken to a hospital. One on one, Cameron asks Rick to tell her exactly what happened, and he confesses that Mark used a razor to cut his genitals and then poured bleach on his wounds. Cameron accuses Rick and the staff of not knowing what they're doing and making it up as they go along, and Rick cries and says he doesn't have a good answer for her.An investigator comes to check the conditions at the camp. Interviewing Cameron, he asks if she feels safe and trusts the staff. She says no, and when he presses for actual incidents of abuse, she says that while they may not beat the disciples, teaching them all to hate themselves is emotional abuse.Early the next morning, Cameron, Adam, and Jane get up and have cereal for breakfast. Rick sees them and wonders why they're up so early. They say they're doing a long day hike, and he says goodbye warmly. Once in the woods, they change out of their uniforms and hitchhike a ride in the back up a pick-up truck away from God's Promise. Finally free, the three teens smile and laugh as they head off into the future.
    

The Miseducation of Cameron Post


            The film begins with a young girl who lives in a house with her father somewhere in Washington State. Her name is Katie Price, and she has Xeroderma Pigmentosum which is a rare disease that forces her to stay out of the sunlight cause sun rays can cause severe damage to her skin. There's a group of kids outside of Katie's house pointing at her windows saying she's a vampire that never comes out during the daytime. Next thing we see a young boy named Charlie skating by on his skateboard. The narrator (older Katie) talks about how she has such a crush on Charlie who she's obviously never met. One of the young kids knocks on Katie's door, and her father (Rob Riggle) says she can't come out and play cause it's daytime, but this girl whose name is Morgan demands to see her and says she'll be back later. Morgan becomes Katie's best friend.Fast forward to present day and teenage Katie (Bella Thorne) is graduating from high school, only she's been home schooled. Her dad gives her a present, and it's a guitar from Katie's mom who we find out died when Katie was very young. Katie begs her dad to let her go down to the local train station and play the guitar once the sun goes down. At night Katie can venture out and do anything like a normal person. As she's playing the guitar at the train station Charlie (Patrick Schwarzenegger) sees her and is struck by her singing. He goes up to talk to her, and she freaks out with nerves and packs up her guitar and runs back home, accidentally leaving her journal behind. Charlie asks Morgan if she knows who Katie is and Morgan arranges for Katie to pick up her journal at the train station the next night from the station manager. Only instead Charlie is there with the journal to surprise her. She's nervous again, but he convinces her to walk home and talk to him.A few days later, Katie texts Charlie inviting him to a party at Morgan's co-worker's house. The party turns out to be super lame so Charlie being a cool kid invites them over to another party that is packed. Charlie is being hit on by another girl at the party, but it's clear he likes Katie, and they dance, and eventually, he invites her to go for a walk where they share their first kiss on a boat that Charlie is tasked with keeping up for the summer. We then see them on a series of dates at night because while Katie has not told Charlie of her condition, she continually says "I'm busy during the days but can come out at night."Charlie takes Katie on a surprise train ride date, and they go to Seattle where they see a concert and walk around the city. Charlie makes Katie play a song at the pier, and a crowd gathers to watch her. They take the train back home and go swimming in the night water. While laying on the beach, Charlie says "get ready for the most beautiful sunrise." Katie checks her watch and realizes that it's broken from the water and that the sun is almost coming up. She freaks out and starts running home. Charlie eventually catches up to her in his truck and drives as she's screaming for him to hurry. He pulls up to the house and as she's running in the sun has risen and shines on her for a few seconds. Morgan and Katie's dad arrive at the house at the same time, and Morgan tells a confused Charlie that Katie has XP.Katie goes to a doctor and is told that her brain is contracting due to the sun exposure and she's starting to get twitches. She refuses to take Charlie's call, and he is shown researching XP. Charlie has a big swim meet to earn a scholarship during this time and is motivated by Katie telling him not to give up on his swimming. Charlie is invited over to the house by Katie's dad, and they reconcile even though she tries to break up with him cause of her condition. Katie tells Charlie that she's watched him outside her window for years and how she always loved him.On another one of their dates, Charlie takes Katie to a recording studio where he's hired musicians to help her record a song she wrote called "Charlie's Song." She records it even though she's getting sicker and weaker. Charlie uploads the song on Youtube. Soon after Charlie says he's going to clean up the boat one last time before the owners get back and Katie begs her dad to let her go sailing around the harbor with Charlie, even though the sunlight is out. It's clear at this point she is dying, and this is her dying wish. They go sailing, and we see flashbacks of their romance.The next scene is Morgan, Charlie, and Katie's dad spreading her ashes in the water where she used to play guitar with her mom. Charlie is then shown going to Berkeley for college and to swim when he hears "Charlie's Song" playing on the radio. We're told it has two million Youtube views. Charlie texts Katie's dad who plays the song for his whole office. Charlie pulls over as the song is playing and reads a final letter Katie wrote him in her journal that she left for him, professing her gratitude and love for him.

            When Katherine and Spencer are on there way to their fathers house, a blizzard hits delaying all plane flights

takes Katherine and Spencer to the UM room (Unaccompanied Minors Room)
In the huge concrete room there are lots of crazy kids in there. That is where Spencer meets Donna (Quinn Shephard), Charlie (Tyler James Williams), Grace (Gena Mantegna) and Beef (Brett Kelly).The five kids decide to escape the UM room and try to find something to do. Spencer grabs a bite to eat, Grace goes to the high flyers room, Donna steals a golf cart type vehicle inside the airport, Beef goes into the safety equipment room and plays around in there and Charlie sings at Sharper Image. They are eventually caught and brought back to the UM room where they discover no one else is there. They also get a lecture from Oliver (Lewis Black), the head of the airport. All the kids, including Spencer's little sister, were brought to the Hoover International Lodge to spend the night on Christmas Eve. Spencer, Donna, Charlie, Grace and Beef are all forced to sleep in the dirty UM room. The kids find a way to trick Zach Van Bourke and they manage to escape the UM room. When they get out, Beef says that he will find a Christmas tree for Spencer's sister to make her Christmas better. Donna and Grace get into a fight after arguing over something stupid. The 4 kids eventually make a trip to distract the guards by letting a dog out of its cage. The 4 kids eventually go to the unclaimed baggage wearhouse, where they find some cool things. Charlie finds 4 walkie talkies and Spencer finds a doll. Both of those things will eventually help them. They are caught on camera and must make a run from Oliver and the guards. They eventually go to the the lodge to see Spencer's sister and deliver the doll that Spencer found for Katherine. Charlie and Donna knock on people's doors and blame it on Oliver who gets punched in the face by a man. Spencer puts the doll next to his sister as she is sleeping.Oliver catches them and Spencer tells Oliver not to wake up his sister. The 4 kids are brought back to private rooms where there are guards next to the doors. They all 4 still have walkie talkies so they manage to get out through the vents in the ceilings. They are in the vents and Charlie falls through the celing into a room with decorations. The 4 kids decorate the airport because it has no Christmas decorations. Beef comes back with the Christmas tree even though he had to go a long way to get it. Oliver doesn't like Christmas because his wife left him on Christmas a couple years back. Oliver catches them but congratulates them for escaping. Oliver decides to bring Christmas to the airport so he dresses up as Santa. They get a list of all people flying alone so they give gifts to them. Spencer meets up with Katherine and there father comes to see them. He drove to the airport all the way from Pennsylvania to meet them. His car blew up on the way so he had to use a Hummer to get there.THE END
