
            Laal Rang is the story of Rajesh and Shankar, who are bound by blood. The two become friends at college. Rajesh wants a respectable job unlike his father who worked as a peon. At college, he meets Shankar - a stalwart who commands respect, he has Rajesh's dream bike and dream life. Their friendship is touching as the elusive Shankar would do anything for his friend. Shankar insists on getting duty at blood bank and he bribes his way into it. Rajesh takes a while to realize that the game of blood theft is huge. The big bucks lute doe eyed Rajesh into it and he has it, the money, the bike, new girlfriend.But Shankar wants to up the game. He has a blood supplier from Delhi who gets arrested by the police. The racket intensifies when one of the regular donors die due to weakness. In smaller towns, selling blood is the easiest way to make money. Rajesh and Shankar go underground to avoid the police's attention.When the business of dengue hits them, there business begins to boom again. They make a lot of money and Rajesh begins to feel he hasn't been given his rightful share. At an inopportune moment, in a fit of rage, he tells this to Shankar. Being the egoistic man who prides being everyone's messiah, he throws open his locker. Rajesh takes his share and moves on to work alone.Rajesh begins independently. He supplies blood without testing, the repercussions are immense. His donor was HIV positive and the case becomes a point if talk in town and a clue for the police to bust the racket. Rajesh takes a spiritual trip with his parents and when he returns, there is a warrant against him. The police nabs him and he almost becomes a witness against Shankar. But one morning he wakes up to find, Shankar has surrendered to the cops.They meet five years later when Rajesh has become a father and Shankar runs a NGO that supplies blood to banks.

            The movie opens with a scene of a bank robbery in progress. The actions of the robbers during the gateway is photographed by Ashwin (Jeeva). After a chase, the injured Ashwin loses his camera to the robbers but managed to retrieve the memory card. His brave actions are broadcasted in the local TV channels and earns him praises from his colleagues and media friends.Ashwin is a press photographer for Dina Anjal, a Tamil daily. He comes across Renuka (Karthika), who earlier caused him to fall and lose his camera during the chase . Then, there is also Saro (Piaa Bajpai) who is Ashwin's close friend and colleague. She secretly has a crush on him.Two politicians, Yogeswaran (Prakash Raj) who is the Chief Minister and his opponent Alavandhan (Kota Sreenivasa Rao). Both of them are competing to gain control of the state. Their antics and wrong-doings are exposed by Ashwin and Renuka, causing them to run into trouble with both the political figures. Then there is Vasanthan Perumal (Ajmal Ameer) , a youth who is trying to gain the confidence of the people to change the state. He was saved by Ashwin once when he was attacked by goons. His efforts to gain the people's confidence are futile as he could not displace any ot the two strongmen. Meanwhile, Ashwin falls in love with Renuka.A bomb explodes at Vasanthan's political rally and scores of people including Saro are killed and many of Vasanthan's comrades are seriously injured. This incident changes the political scenario, Many people started to support Vasanthan's party. Renuka discovers a link between Ashwin and Vasanthan. A flashback reveals that both Ashwin and Vasanthan are college mates. Ashwin admits that he is secretly helping Vasanthan in his political ambitions. Later, Vasanthan's party wins in the elections and he is elected the Chief Minister.Meanwhile, Ashwin suspects elements of foul play in Saro's death. With a footage of the scene after the blast which was recorded by a dead TV cameraman and assisted by a media friend (editor Anthony), he discovered that Saro was stomped to death by a man. He finds out that Saro's killer and the gang leader of the bank robbers are both the same person (Bose Venkat).Ashwin then goes to meet Vasanthan with the evidence. He is shocked to see the killer in the CM's office. He tries to tell Vasanthan but he is calmed down and Vasanthan sends the killer out. It is then revealed that the killer is a leader of a Naxalite movement and they are the ones who robbed the bank. Then, Ashwin tails the killer to his hideout. Unknown to him, Vasanthan has ordered police commandos to surround the Naxalite's hideout and take them down.Ashwin arrives at the hideout and realises the presence of the commandos. He forces his way into a house which is the hideout. A shoot-out ensues between the Naxalites and the commandos. The Naxal leader is then shot. The Naxal leader then realised that he was set up by Vasanthan. Ashwin gets a doctor to treat the leader and at the same time, the leader reveals shocking truths to Ashwin. Vasanthan planned the bomb blast himself. When Saro discovered the bomb, she alerted Vasanthan but was beaten up by him and later killed. The motive of the bomb blast is to gain the sympathy of the civilians and the Naxals had helped Vasanthan.Vasanthan later arrived at the terrorists' hideout. He asked the other Naxalite terrorists to kill Ashwin but he ended up killing all of them after a fierce fight. Then, Ashwin confronted Vasanthan. Both of them get engaged in a free-for-all and get hurt. Ashwin then steps on a landmine.Vasanthan pleads to Ashwin not to reveal the truth to the media.( The conversation earlier between Ashwin and the Naxal leader was being watched by Renuka via 3G and she was preparing the headline reports.) Vasanthan tells Ashwin that if the truth is revealed then the people will sure lose their faith in the youths completely.Ashwin then releases the landmine and jumps off the window. The landmine explodes and Vasanthan is killed. Ashwin then urges Renuka to delete the headline reports. She was reluctant but after pleads from Ashwin she deletes it. She prepares a new report stating the death of Vasanthan.Ashwin and Renuka reveal the truth to the editor and submits their resignation letters. The editor rejects their resignation and both of them continue to work at the daily while Vasanthan's friends who are elected ministers rule the state.

            K is a film maker, may be around 45 years of age, who is in a party. It is made clear that he is a womanizer. He meets a beautiful young girl whose mothers name is Sherene who was his first girlfriend. He remembers Sherene as flash back where he refuses her sexual advance on his birthday and leaves her.He meets this beautiful young girl again near washroom where she is changing her top. He again goes to flash back where he had seen a women change many times. He remembers how he successfully talks her into convincing her husband to finance his movie.He goes to have a drink with this beautiful young girl. She being a dancer reminds him of his dancer wife who left him due to his affair with his heroine.The young girl then asks her about how he came up with the story of his first successful movie 8 to 8. He again goes to flashback where he shared a room with a girl whom he never met as he lived in the room from morning 8 to evening 8 as he was working at night shift. This arrangement worked as the girl with whom he shared room had day shift. They communicated with each other through writings. But one day suddenly he had to leave due to his fathers death resulting into no financial support for him. He chose to not meet the girl to keep his memory as pleasant colorful one as meeting her will spoil that feeling. Otherwise he would not have made the movie 8 to 8 so successfully. He compromises real life opportunity to come up with a good movie.He again goes to flash back where he drugs his maid and take help to write his version of movie Devdas.Later he remembers the time when he is in US for film festival due to his successful movie and how he spent time with a girl there. He succeeds to go to her house in spite of her earlier anger due to his blunt approach.When this beautiful young girl approaches him sexually, he remembers how one of his girlfriend who was also his earlier movies heroine wanted to become pregnant but he refused. He thought that she was too young to become pregnant but too old to act in his new movie.He later remembers how he refused to marry a girlfriend and how his carelessness caused an accident costing her life.The dressing of the young beautiful girl in his room reminds him of one of his girlfriend who deflowered him and discouraged him to do something on his own. She takes an aggressive interview which was enough to break him.He then tells this young beautiful girl that he thinks that she is not real as he doesnt even know her name. He only knew that her mothers name is Sherene. She says that he should ask who is he instead of asking who is she.He then remembers how he got attracted to a woman much older than him when he was very young and was in Tamil Nadu as his dad who was in military got transferred there. Actually that woman used him to get a prey for her husband to get anal sex on K.K finds out this beautiful young girls name which was Aastha. He stills misses Sherene and talks to her in his imagination. Aastha gives her a watch as gift which she claims is a time travel machine.K uses it and to his surprise it really worked. He reaches that women in Tamil Nadu where he apologizes her for running away. Actually she had killed her husband for protecting K. When he asks how she took care of the dead body, she reveals that she made biryani out of the dead body.
