
            The opening scene begins with a family going on a car trip through the mountains. A little boy named Pete (Levi Alexander) is reading a book about a puppy named Elliot. A deer runs into the road and causes Pete's dad to swerve the car, causing an accident that kills Pete's parents. Pete wanders out of the car and into the woods all alone. A pack of wolves come out and surround Pete, but they are scared off by the appearance of a large dragon. Pete asks the dragon if he is going to eat him. The dragon gently approaches Pete. The boy touches him, and the dragon's fur turns green. Pete decides to name the dragon Elliot. He gets into the dragon's left paw and it flies away with Pete.Six years later.Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) is telling a group of kids a story about the dragon that lives in the woods. His daughter Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), a park ranger, listens in on the story.Pete (now played by Oakes Fegley) lives with Elliot the Dragon in the woods now. Pete catches a rabbit, but a bear lurks behind him. The bear runs away once Elliot shows up. Together, Pete and Elliot fly above the woods. Elliot also has the ability to turn invisible. At night, they sleep in a cave.Grace is going through the woods doing her job while Pete observes her from a hiding place. When she's not looking, Pete sneaks by and takes a compass locket out of her bag. Grace thinks she hears something in the woods, but she sees nothing and leaves.A group of lumberjacks led by Gavin (Karl Urban) are working in the woods, chopping down some trees. Gavin's brother Jack (Wes Bentley), also Grace's fiance, shows up along with his daughter Natalie (Oona Laurence), while Grace arrives on the scene. None of them are happy that Gavin is cutting down trees on his own accord. Natalie then sees Pete in the woods and follows him. Pete climbs a tree, and Natalie does the same. She slips and almost falls, but Pete catches her, causing them both to fall. They land on a branch and Pete hangs onto her, but Natalie drops a few feet and gets a scrape. The adults come running by and they discover Pete. He runs away, but Gavin catches him as he tries climbing up another tree. Pete falls and bumps his head, knocking himself out. Elliot then awakens as if to sense something is wrong. He lets out a low groaning sound, which Gavin hears.Pete wakes up in the hospital. As the doctors are telling Grace that he's fine, he escapes out the window. Pete runs into the streets, going as far as to climb a schoolbus and hop onto another car. He is eventually found by Sheriff Dentler (Isiah Whitlock, Jr), along with Grace and Natalie. They take him in.At night, Gavin and his mates go into the woods, armed. Elliot lurks by in camouflage. The men find Pete and Elliot's hideout, causing Elliot to reveal himself. He swipes Gavin's gun as the men make a run for it. Elliot then sneezes on Gavin and gets snot all over him. The men flee the scene.Grace brings Pete back to her home. He tries running away again, but Grace promises to take him back to the woods if he just stays the night. Pete is given a real meal for the first time in ages. He tells Natalie about Elliot, which Grace overhears and recognizes as the same dragon her dad told her stories about. Grace then gets a call from the Sheriff, who says that they found records of Pete's family having gone missing. Meanwhile, Elliot flies around town and is spotted by people near the hospital. He eventually comes across Grace's home and sees that Elliot is doing okay. He flies back to his cave.The next day, Pete guides Grace, Natalie, and Mr. Meacham into the woods to find Elliot. The dragon becomes visible, to the astonishment of everyone. Moments later, Gavin and his men come in and tranquilize Elliot before capturing him.The men keep Elliot sedated and locked up in a warehouse. Pete and Natalie attempt to set him free through the skylight. Gavin brings the Sheriff and other townsfolk to see Elliot, but when they enter the warehouse, he is nowhere to be found. Gavin thinks he flew out, but Elliot is just invisible while Pete and Natalie are hiding in the truck, which Grace notices. Mr. Meacham arrives and helps the kids break out of the warehouse. Elliot is exposed, and everyone begins to chase after them.The whole police squad pursues Elliot, Mr. Meacham and the kids. Elliot is still too weak to fly, and his attempt causes him to fall hard on the truck and cut off the brake line. Gavin tries to get Mr. Meacham to pull over, but he refuses. Gavin drives up ahead and tries to get them to stop before the bridge. Mr. Meacham is unable to pull the brakes, causing him to slam into Gavin's truck as the men run away. Mr. Meacham pulls the emergency brakes and stops at the end of the bridge. The police are coming in closer. Elliot is now angry, and he runs to the top of the bridge. Pete pleads with him not to do what he's about to do, but Elliot breathes fire down on the bridge to stop the police from advancing. Grace and Jack come by in their truck and halt before the fire gets them. The fire breaks through the bridge and causes the truck to start falling. Gavin attempts to rescue Grace and Jack as Jack breaks the glass in the back. The bridge starts breaking, causing the truck to plummet down along with Elliot. After a tense moment, Elliot flies up with Grace and Jack riding on his back. He brings them to safety, and then flies away with Pete.Pete and Elliot return to their part of the woods. A tree has fallen over their cave, leaving them with nowhere to stay. Pete knows this means they cannot stay there anymore, and it also means they have to leave each other. Pete hugs Elliot, and the dragon comforts the boy. Pete is brought back to Grace, Jack, and Natalie, while Elliot flies away.Sometime later, Grace and Jack have gotten married and have adopted Pete. Mr. Meacham's voice is heard saying that nobody ever saw Elliot again, and he hasn't told a story about him since. Gavin has given up looking for Elliot and goes back to work. Pete and his new family then take a trip to the mountains. Pete reunites with Elliot and sees that he is now with five other dragons. The family watches as the dragons fly away together.The End
    

Pete's Dragon


            A boy, Theo, is noticeably shaken and being held by the police. His mother has died after an explosion during a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He feels he is responsible for the death of his mother. The whereabouts of his father are unknown. He has given the police the name of a mother, Samantha Barbour, whose family he knows from school. The woman agrees to take responsibility of him as an obligation since no one in Theo's family is available. He is clearly emotionally devastated, but shows no sign of crying. Police repeatedly ask him questions about his location, his mother's location, who and what else he has seen around the time of the explosion, etc. The woman stands up for him and his apparent lack of memory. Theo goes home with the mother. He makes good friends with Andy, the curly-haired son who is just under his age. The family is somewhat dysfunctional, especially visible in incidents involving the strong-willed father and the impudent oldest son, Platt.We learn that Theo had received a ring from a man killed in the blast. He was asked to return it to Hobart and Blackwell. Theo resourcefully finds the address of Hobart and Blackwell in the phone book and ventures out to deliver the ring. He is invited in and develops a friendship with the antique dealer, Hobie, who had lost his business partner Welty in the blast. Hobie is taking care of Pippa, the red-haired daughter of Welty Blackwell who Theo admired immediately before the blast. Pippa has major head injuries and spends most of her time in bed and is discouraged from listening to music since she needs rest more than music practice. Pippa and Theo have a strong bond since both just lost the main part of their families in the explosion. Pippa's mother had already passed away prior to the explosion due to illness.Theo spends time at both the Barbour family and the Hobie's shop and home. He learns about antique restoration from Hobie. He develops stronger ties to Andy and Mrs. Barbour. Theo is invited to join them for their summer vacation. However, soon after that invitation, Theo's father shows up along with his girlfriend. Theo disappointedly is required to travel off to live with his father, Larry, and the father's girlfriend, Xandra, in a mostly foreclosed neighborhood at the edge of the desert. Life is lonely at the new school and in the neighborhood, until Theo meets another loner named Boris. Boris is an awkward classmate who has lived many places as his father is a miner. Boris has no mother and his father is typically away. This allows plenty of time for Boris to shoplift, experiment with drugs, and get into other mischief. Some of these habits are adopted by Theo as well.Through flashbacks, we learn that Theo immediately after the explosion had been encouraged by Welty to take the valuable painting, The Goldfinch, as Welty was dying. Theo had kept it wrapped up, sporadically hugging it as it was a source of comfort, his mother's favorite painting, and the last art he had seen before his life was radically changed. It becomes more and more clear that Theo's life all began its downward spiral right at the moment of that terrible explosion.Larry happens to be in serious debt trouble and attempts to get Theo to transfer $65,000 out of the inheritance from his mother. The plan fails as the money can only be transferred directly to a school. Larry is in despair and ends up getting extremely drunk and killing himself in an auto accident. Theo and Boris learn of the father's death during one of their drug trips. Soon after, Theo decides that he must leave before he is assigned to a foster home. He heads back to New York and moves in with Hobie.The next scene shows Theo after a few years have passed, and we see Theo as a young man -- no longer a boy. Hobie has taught Theo about antique restoration and Theo joins Hobie's company, working as the sales arm of Hobart and Blackwell. His assistance leads to increased financial success, although it becomes clear that sometimes Theo is selling the reproductions as authentic antiques and not just as stated, high-quality reproductions of antiques as Hobie had intended.A dissatisfied customer complains to Theo that he had been tricked during his purchase of furniture that was offered to him as an authentic. To further avoid trouble, Theo offers to buy it back even beyond the purchase price. However, the customer actually knows far more, has done extensive research, and announces that he knows that Theo had taken "The Goldfinch". Theo does not let on that he took it or has it. Tensions are high and the customer later divulges his knowledge to the highly honest Hobie. Hobie confronts Theo about the new information, and Theo regretfully confesses to a much disappointed Hobie that the claim is true.Other tragedies have occurred. Andy and his father had passed away during a storm on the open seas, and this has hit Mrs. Barbour hard. As for Theo's love life: Theo's true love, Pippa is committed to another man. Theo has therefore focused his affection for the now grown-up daughter, Kitsey, of Mrs. Barbour. However, Theo finds that even while engaged, Kitsey has been and remains romantically involved with another man who she loves -- clearly not to the liking of Theo.In coping with the continued tragedies, Theo continues his drug habits, and this once again brings him by chance in contact with the now grown-up Boris. Boris is more wealthy now and has his own driver. Boris confesses that he had actually taken the painting "The Goldfinch" years ago from Theo. Theo had last opened it up during one of their drug trips, of which Theo had no recall. Boris had actually during the high-school days, secretly taken the painting and unbeknownst to Theo, replaced it with a Civics book.Since then, the painting was truly lost and out of the country, no longer in Boris's possession. However, Boris had a plan to get it back, to set things right again between him and Theo. The plan involved money and guns and dealing with professional crooks and did not go well. The painting was again lost. Theo was now at the bottom of his spiral, took a lethal dose of drugs and began hallucinating. Just then, Boris rushes into the hotel room, forces Theo to vomit the drugs out and returns Theo back to life. Boris also had served as an informant about the missing painting and delivers Theo the news that the police have finally found "The Goldfinch" and have returned it to its rightful place in the museum. The movie allows one to wonder after his second chance if Theo can overcome and achieve the life to eventually surmount the terrible event.

            Seldom are we exposed to the mastermind behind the publicity stunt, or the motivation for what they're doing; the lengths they will go to be successful, or what inspired them to conjure up such an unbelievable idea in the first place. Inspired by real events, Billboard lifts the veil, on an inexperienced entrepreneur who will do anything to succeed.Not your typical bombastic publicity stunt host, Casey Lindeweiler returns home to Allentown, Pennsylvania, after he inherits an AM radio station, WTYT 960, from his father. Upon Casey's arrival, he discovers that his dad was drowning in debt and the station is being kept alive by a small band of dedicated DJs who don't want to see the only independent radio station left in town fail.Uncertain of what to do to boost ratings, Casey pulls out one of the oldest tricks in radio, the wacky contest. Casey's grand idea is to host a billboard-sitting contest where four people will live on a catwalk, in front of a billboard. Whoever lives up there the longest will win a mobile home and "nine-sixty" thousand dollars.WTYT 960 becomes the laughing stock of the community. The mockery of Casey's contest drives awareness beyond the main stream to the fringes, stirring interest in the contest, much to the chagrin of his local radio market competition. As the contest begins, Casey's lack of preparation becomes apparent as he feels the weight of responsibility for the lives of his contestants. What he thought would last days, ends up lasting a lot, lot longer.Over time, the contest begins to spiral out of Casey's control, causing him to dig deep within himself to uncover the true catalyst of what's driving him to save the station. Is his sheer determination enough?
