            Lieutenant Colonel Nathaniel Serling (Denzel Washington) was involved in a friendly fire incident in Al Bathra during the Gulf War. He was an M1 Abrams tank battalion commander who, during the nighttime confusion of Iraqi tanks infiltrating his unit's lines, gave the order to fire, destroying one of his own tanks and killing his friend Lieutenant Boylar. The details were covered up (Boylar's parents were told that their son was killed by enemy fire), and Serling was shuffled off to a desk job.Later, he is assigned to determine if Army Captain Karen Emma Walden (Meg Ryan) should be the first woman to receive (posthumously) the Medal of Honor for valor in combat. A Medevac Huey commander, she was sent to rescue the crew of a helicopter that had been shot down. Finding them under heavy fire from an Iraqi tank and infantry, her men dropped an auxiliary fuel bladder on the tank and ignited it with a flare gun. Shortly after, her helicopter was also hit and downed. The two crews were unable to join forces. The survivors were rescued the next day, but Walden had been killed.At first, everything seems to be straightforward, but Serling begins to notice inconsistencies between the testimonies of the witnesses. Walden's co-pilot, Warrant Officer One Rady (Tim Guinee), praises Walden's character and performance, but was hit and rendered unconscious early on. Serling then sees Walden's medic, Specialist Ilario (Matt Damon), who also praises Walden; by his account, Walden was the one who came up with the idea of the improvised incendiary. Staff Sergeant Monfriez (Lou Diamond Phillips), however, tells Serling that Walden was a coward and that he was responsible for destroying the tank. The members of the other downed crew mention that they heard the distinctive sound of an M16 being used in the firefight during the rescue around the other helicopter, but Walden's crew denies firing one during the rescue, as theirs was out of ammunition. When Serling visits Walden's crew chief, Sergeant Altameyer (Seth Gilliam), who is dying of cancer in a hospital. Altameyer manages to get some words out, further confusing Serling, before self-medicating himself into unconsciousness.Under pressure from the White House and his commander, Brigadier General Hershberg (Michael Moriarty), to wrap things up quickly, Serling leaks the story to newspaper reporter Tony Gartner (Scott Glenn) to prevent another cover up. When Serling puts pressure on Monfriez during a car ride, Monfriez forces him to get out of the vehicle at gunpoint, then commits suicide by driving into an oncoming train.After finding an AWOL Ilario, Serling discovers that Monfriez wanted to escape under cover of darkness, which would have meant leaving Rady behind. Altameyer was ready to follow his lead and Ilario was wavering, but Walden refused to go along, resulting in an armed standoff with Monfriez. When an Iraqi infantryman appeared suddenly behind Monfriez, Walden fired at him. Mistakenly believing he was the target, Monfriez shot back and seriously wounded her. Walden, however, regained control of her men. The next morning, Walden stayed behind to cover their evacuation, firing the M16. Monfriez deliberately lied to the rescuers, telling them that she was dead so she would be left behind. Altameyer, injured and unable to say anything but "no!", was ignored. Ilario remained silent, fearing a court-martial. A-10 airplanes then napalmed the wreckage.Serling presents his final report to Hershberg. Walden's young daughter receives the Medal of Honor in a White House ceremony. Later, Serling tearfully tells the Boylars the truth about the manner of their son's death. In the last moments of the film, it is shown that Walden had transported Boylar's body away from the battlefield.

            Patty Butler (Susan Blakely), is a very comely young police officer who is pretending to be a runaway girl with the nickname of "Chicklet," and has been given permission by the department to be the live-in girlfriend of Thomas 'Stick' Henderson (Tony King), a suspected drug dealer, so that the police can gather evidence against him. To back up her cover story, Detective Bo Lockley (Michael Moriarty) has been given what should be an almost impossible assignment: without being told she is actually an undercover police officer, he is instructed to spend a few weeks trying to find Chicklet. Bo openly looking for and trying to find her will convince Stick that his girlfriend really is a runaway.Amazingly, Bo is actually an excellent detective and finds her in the sleazy underbelly of the city. Bo is then thanked by his supervisor, Richard 'Crunch' Blackstone (Yaphet Kotto) and told to go back to his previous assignment. Either infatuated with Chicklet or not able to just allow her to be abandoned by the system, he goes to Stick's loft to try and rescue her. In the process, Bo and Stick become engaged in a firefight, whereupon Stick is able to escape the apartment, and Bo ends up chasing Stick, running across town barefoot, carrying a handgun and dressed only in boxer shorts, into a department store, and are trapped in a Mexican standoff in one of the department store elevators.Eventually the police barricade the elevator, and Crunch grabs him when Bo and Stick leave through the elevator's emergency exit ceiling panel. Bo having been pulled to safety, the police then open fire on Stick, killing him.In the aftermath of the firefight and the subsequent killing of Stick, it is discovered that Officer Butler was killed in Stick's loft by Bo, and an investigation has to be made as to whether he was negligent. As a result of the investigation, it's determined that she was killed as a result of Bo trying to defend himself from Stick shooting at him, and thus the shooting was accidental. Bo, however, was so depressed by what he had done that he hung himself in his jail cell before he finds out that it was an accident.The movie is, in effect, a police report of an incident where a police officer was shot by another officer who later committed suicide in jail, and a suspected perpetrator being killed in a public place (the department store), being made to the Police Commissioner, which is where the title of the film came from.

            From her New York City high-rise office, a businesswoman screams in terror as something unseen brutally decapitates the window cleaner working outside. Upon arriving at the office, Police Detective Shepard (David Carradine) and Sergeant Powell (Richard Roundtree) struggle to explain how the man was killed. The next day, Powell investigates the apparently unrelated murder of a man whose body was meticulously skinned.Meanwhile, former convict and recovering drug addict Jimmy Quinn (Michael Moriarty) begs a group of gangsters to allow him to work as a driver in their next heist.One afternoon a day or two later, a rooftop sunbather (Bobbie Burns) is attacked and carried away by a flying creature, her blood dripping onto multiple pedestrians and causing panic in the streets below.Desperate for an honest job, Jimmy enters a bar where Shepard is having a drink, and asks to be their lounge pianist. The bartender dislikes his playing, however, and Jimmy has no choice but to help the gangsters rob a jewelry store. He calmly escapes on foot, but a truck strikes him, injuring his right leg and knocks his bag of money into the street. He limps to a payphone and telephones his lawyer to inform him that he is on his way to visit his offices for help. When he arrives at the offices in the Chrysler Building, however, the lawyer's door is locked, and Jimmy sets off an alarm, attempting to break in. To evade a security guard, he climbs a series of staircases and ladders, which lead him inside the building's spire. At the top, Jimmy discovers an enormous egg lying in a nest, before stumbling over a bloody human skeleton wearing a gold bracelet (the dead sunbather. Frightened, Jimmy sneaks downstairs and escapes the building.Meanwhile, the winged creature attacks more people and drops their body parts onto the street. Shepard speaks with a curator at the American Museum of Natural History, who tells him the about the human sacrifices made by the Aztecs to a winged serpent god called Quetzalcoatl. Believing many of the victims to be suicidal, Shepard borrows the curator's books in hopes of learning more about the ancient rituals.Jimmy returns to his girl friend, Joan (Candy Clark), and confesses about the failed theft and the dead body he discovered in the Chrysler Building.That night, a man in an Aztec mask and feathered costume slices open another man's chest; the following morning, Shepard and Powell find the body along the Hudson River with the heart carefully removed. As rumors of a monstrous bird circulate the city, Shepard speaks with a Columbia University professor about the Aztecs' sacrificial practices.One day, Jimmy is awakened in his apartment by two of the gangsters, Doyle (John Capodice) and Webb (Tony Page), knocking on his door. Jimmy flees through the fire escape, but the men chase him through the streets and accuse him of keeping the jewelry store money for himself. Insisting that the loot is safely hidden, Jimmy leads them to the spire of the Chrylser Building. The gangsters knock the security guard unconscious and follow Jimmy to the serpent's nest. Once the creature devours Doyle and Webb, Jimmy escapes, but runs into two policemen, who recognize him as the jewelry store robber and arrest him.At the police station, the commissioner informs Powell and Shepard that 43 witnesses saw a flying creature snatch a man from his rooftop swimming pool. Eavesdropping, Jimmy hears Shepard propose that the recent ritualistic murders are responsible for bringing the winged creature back to life. Later, Joan visits Jimmy in prison and urges him to reveal what he knows about the monster.Jimmy meets with the commissioner, Powell, and Shepard, telling them about the skeleton's gold bracelet, which the police realize matches the description of an item worn by the missing sunbather. In exchange for revealing the location of the nest, Jimmy demands immunity for his crimes, $1 million, and rights to all photographs of the creature, but Powell and the commissioner refuse. Shepard brings Jimmy to a cafe and coerces him into telling him the location.Sometime later, Jimmy and Shepard lead a squad of policemen to the top of the Chrysler Building, where they shoot the egg. A baby emerges from the shell, but Shepard immediately kills it. Downstairs, Shepard refuses to award Jimmy his $1 million, claiming that the reward was for information leading to the fully-grown creature, not its offspring.Meanwhile, Powell and an undercover police officer watch two men meet outside the American Museum of Natural History and follow them to a warehouse. One man begins to perform the sacrificial ritual on the other, but Powell bursts in and chases after the killer. However, the winged serpent swoops toward the building, grabs Powell in its talons, and flies over the city.In Jimmy's apartment, he and Joan break up after fighting about the $1 million reward.Back at the Chrysler Building, police open gunfire as the serpent returns to its nest, but the creature grabs multiple officers in its mouth and flings them over the side, dropping Powell in the process. Riddled with bullets, the monster weakly flies away, eventually plummeting to it's death into the street below.Jimmy takes up residence in a hotel, where a man holds him at knife point and attempts to sacrifice him to the "plumed serpent," but Jimmy refuses to recite the prayer necessary to complete the ritual. At that moment, Shepard arrives and shoots the man dead. As they leave the room, Jimmy vows to get a proper job before he reunites with Joan, who Shepard insists is waiting for him at the police station.In a desecrated building across town, another giant serpent egg begins to hatch.

            Two miners (Peter Hock and Harry Bellaver) find a yogurt- and ice-cream-like substance that appears from inside the Earth's core in a kind of eruption. They taste it to see whether it's edible, and they like it a lot. They love the way that it tastes so much that they decide to mass-produce it and start selling it. From now on, it's known as the Stuff, the latest taste sensation.Jason's mother (Colette Blonigan) buys the product--suddenly it's everywhere, on commercials, billboards, at the supermarket. The Stuff is usually kept in the fridge, but Jason (Scott Bloom) doesn't like this new product at all, especially because he saw it move all by itself inside his refrigerator. However, his parents don't listen to him. Soon, there is only Stuff in the household fridge, so that Jason feels more and more hungry and isolated. Jason's family was not a really good family before--at least toward Jason--but now they only talk, eat, and think Stuff.Finally Jason is contacted by industrial-espionage expert David "Mo" Rutherford (Michael Moriarty). They recognize each other as people who have not tasted the Stuff. They go to the main factory to try to stop them from producing the deadly dessert. People become slaves of the Stuff, preferring that substance instead of food.Mo and Jason, and Nicole (Andrea Marcovicci), the designer of the strange substance's advertising campaign, start being attacked by people who have become addicted to the Stuff.Finally, they reach the factory. Mo and Nicole are given a tour around the factory, and the foreman tells them that they have a room paid for at the nearest motel. Meanwhile, Jason sneaks around the plant, and he becomes trapped inside one of the distribution trucks.The most famous scene happens now when at a cheap motel: Stuff starts appearing from David and Nicole's mattress. First, it tries to suffocate David, but Nicole burns it. They run away, but a man obedient to the Stuff is the one who gets killed. Stuff overfloods the whole motel. Meanwhile, the truck in which Jason is in starts moving, followed by David and Nicole. Jason tumbles all around inside it. The truck reaches its destination.Nicole and David see a stream of Stuff flooding from the core of the Earth, being put inside distribution trucks without any filtering. David attaches some mini recording cameras to his ankles and then uses the yellow overalls of the Stuff workers. The Stuff creates weird milky structures and is possibly sentient.Stuff is being poured into the truck in which Jason is trapped. David hears Jason talking though the truck, so he can free him. Meanwhile, Nicole is attacked by one of the workers while she is traveling to the meeting point with David, who saves her. Then, David comes back to take Jason from the truck.A police officer stops the truck that David is driving because the back door was open. David mentions that it's a pity that so much Stuff is getting wasted. Jason and Nicole pretend to eat it until the police officer also goes to eat some and David can knock him down.They reach a fortress, and a rightist militia helps them to take on the factory, lead by Colonel Malcolm Grommett Spears (Paul Sorvino). They kill many factory workers but the Stuff overflows once again. Nicole and Jason run in the last second. The Stuff wrecks the factory. They want to broadcast from Atlanta so that everybody knows what the Stuff can do.'Chocolate Chip' Charlie W. Hobbs (Garrett Morris) is a cookie mogul who will help them because sales of the Stuff made him file for bankruptcy. However, when he arrives at the colonel's radio station, it turns out that he is addicted to Stuff. He takes Nicole aside and opens his mouth and Stuff starts pouring out.Somehow, people believe what the Colonel says and they start turning against the Stuff. They burn it and vandalize places that sell it.The unscrupulous owners of the Stuff want to re-market it by calling it the Taste, a blend of yogurt and ice cream, with enough Stuff on it to turn consumers into addicts. David calls Jason, and he enters the room. Jason takes glasses and glasses of Stuff and they force the company owners to eat it.The police arrive while the two owners eat and eat. They are already hooked on it and can't stop. David and Jason leave.Meanwhile, some criminals are buying loads and loads of their drug of choice, Stuff, implying that the Stuff is here to stay.

            The film is set several years after the events of the first two films. The movie begins with a woman going into labor in a cab on a rainy night. Panicked, the cab driver seeks out a police officer to assist in the birth before going to search for a public phone to call an ambulance. While he's away the woman gives birth to a mutant baby. Recognizing it as a mutant child like the ones from the prior films, the officer tries to shoot and kill the infant, who reacts by killing the officer and mother. The following day the mutant baby's corpse is found inside of a Catholic church, where it dragged itself to die.The film then cuts to a courtroom, where Jarvis (Michael Moriarty) is pleading for the court to spare the life of his mutant son, who he argues is acting aggressively because it's reacting to the hostility of the people and chaos surrounding him. The baby breaks out of the cage but is placated by Jarvis, which convinces the Judge to spare the child and four others like him by quarantining them on a remote deserted island.After the trial, Jarvis is treated like a social pariah, as he is unable to work his former acting job and the child's mother Ellen (Karen Black) only wants to live her own life without him, as if she had never given birth. This eventually leads to Jarvis becoming extremely bitter, as he is unable to pay his legal fees and women want nothing to do with him, afraid that he will pass along the mutation through casual touch. Aware that the babies are still alive and that the mutations were a side effect of a medication his pharmaceutical company produced, Cabot (William Watson) and some of his associates travel to the island to kill them in order to manufacture the drug under a new label, only for the entire party to be killed and eaten by the mutant babies.Five years later.Jarvis is approached by Lieutenant Perkins (James Dixon), who tells him that he has been recruited by Dr. Swenson (Art Lund) to launch an expedition to the island to study the babies' growth and that he wants Jarvis to accompany them. The expedition proves to be disastrous, as all but Jarvis and Perkins are left alive - Perkins has been deserted on the island while Jarvis remains on the boat as their captive, as the mutants want to travel to Cape Vale, Florida. While traveling Jarvis realizes that the babies grew quickly and have reached adulthood, as one of them has given birth to a baby. It is implied that Jarvis's son is the father of this child. Jarvis also realizes that the mutants communicate with each other telepathically and that the only reason he is still alive is because of the existence of the bodies of the ship's sailing crew and because his son has been protecting him. He also realizes that the children are traveling in order to find Ellen. Eventually their ship comes across another vessel, at which point Jarvis's son throws his father overboard in order to save his life, expecting that the ship will pick him up.When Jarvis awakens he finds himself held captive in Cuba, but manages to convince his captors of his identity and that the mutant children pose a danger to those around them. He also manages to get them to take him back home. Meanwhile, the mutant children have arrived in the United States, where they promptly kill several people who appeared to be a threat to either them or Ellen while also defending a woman being attacked by a gang of punks. Ultimately both Jarvis and the mutants find Ellen, upon which point the mutants try to get her to take the child. Initially reluctant, Ellen accepts the child after Jarvis convinces that the mutants looked for her out of love for their child, as they were dying of measles and would be unable to care for the child, and because they strongly instinctively associated her with motherhood. The two accept the child just as its parents die from measles while the final remaining adult mutant distracts the police, allowing Jarvis and Ellen to escape. The film ends with the two of them driving away together with the child in search of a safe place to raise the baby.
