            Catacombe the movie about a player Jermaine Slagter, a professional football player from professional football's lowest tier. Catacombe is the second feature film by director Victor D. Ponten. Central defender Jermaine has a big problems. He has gambling addiction and is tempted by an offer from a Chinese gambling syndicate. His position is defensive hub at FC Barkas and he knows his body is slowly giving out, and his position as team captain is in jeopardy. Borrowing EUR100,000 at a gaming establishment where in a short time loses all. Jermaine only is given three weeks to pay the money back in order to keep the match fixing syndicate from controlling his play during future games.As the clock winds down on the deadline, He must do everything to keep his life from falling apart and struggles in his relationships with his shifty father and his child's mother, whom he continually disappoints. Following a long period of drinking, infidelity and gambling, his wife Naomi leaves him, taking their daughter Joy with her. Jermaine plays the most important game of his life to keep everything from falling apart and to avoid losing his family for good. He wants to win back Naomi and Joy. However, Naomi has had enough rejects any chance of reconciling their relationship.Jermaine ends up in the very place he was determined to avoid: an illegal gambling den.
Shot on location in the Netherlands, Belgium and Taiwan in 2017 it has opened in Dutch theaters in September of 2018. The movie will also interest fans who are not only sports buffs. It is a story of what the main character is up against maintaining his self-esteem and self-image having a universal fear of failure.A movie where pop and football culture meet. Record label Top Notch street fashion brand Daily Paper, football supporters fashion brand Football Culture and street art collective Kamp Seedorf assuring the elements of Catacombe that appealed to them with style and good content.
Catacombe's fictional football club FC Barkas was developed in close partnership of designer and creative director Joachim Baan, within semi-professional football and the pop cultural sphere.
The song 'Niet Huilen' ('don't cry') by rappers Hef, Jayboogz & Kevin was released by Top Notch as the official title song of the film.Victor D. Ponten directed the music video in the same stadium where the movie was filmed. All three rappers were promising players at some point before their music careers took off, with Kevin having done quite well as a youth player for Rotterdam club Excelsior.Daily Paper is probably the Netherlands' most popular street fashion brand (and store). Because all merchandise must be made way in advance, they were involved with Catacombe from an early point. A red tracksuit was produced featuring the FC Barkas crest, as well as a white T-shirt with the Catacombe logo in red, and a black T-shirt and hoodie with a portrait of Jermaine Slagter in the style of the classic Panini football stickers. Additionally, photographer Mounir Raji shot a look-book with FC Utrecht under-19 defender Ruben Kluivert.Football Culture, another media partner, created a special Catacombe-inspired T-shirt with the artist. All these partners represent a slice of the target audience, explains New Amsterdam creative Christoph van Veghel. 'It's a layered approach, and all of them were genuinely into the film as well, that was important too.' It stars Willem DE Bruin, one of the most popular rap artists in the Netherlands, in his big screen debut as an actor.
