Jean-Luc McMurtry was born on Hilton Head Island, in South Carolina to Steven McMurtry a physician, and Lucie Sigouin a Canadian architect. He is of French, German and Scottish decent. Jean-Luc grew up an athlete, playing many sports including baseball, basketball and golf. When he was 11, he stumbled across his father's old Super 8 camera, tucked away in the attic. This was the beginning.He began making short films with his friends, and acting in the plays and musicals at his high-school. He received a scholarship to attend NYU's Tisch School of the Arts for Drama, in New York City and moved there in 2012. He has lived there since.Jean-Luc landed his first professional film credit at 19, playing the lead role in the feature film, "Curveball" also starring Lynn Whitfield and Rockmond Dunbar.
