Jackie Appiah is a Ghanaian actress with a career spanning from television to film and being a spokeswoman and brand ambassador. She is known as the Queen and Maestro of the movie industry in Ghana and beyond. She was born in a family of five children on December 5, 1983 to Janet Owusu and George Appiah in Canada where she had her early education at Derrydown Public School, Toronto, Ontario before moving to Ghana for high school. While in Toronto, the young and adorable Jackie showed interest in acting and she became a regular fixture in end of year school plays. In 1995 a 12-year old Jackie moved to Ghana to stay with her older sister but never gave up on her love for acting. She took part in several school plays as she continued her education in Faith Montessori in Accra before moving to Achimota Preparatory School. While in Achimota she was voted as the Girls' Entertainment Prefect, which augmented her passion for the arts. During the period, she auditioned as an actor on the Hal Jackson Talent Teens Show for a chance to travel to perform at the famous Apollo Theatre. The 17 year old was broken-hearted when she emerged the first runner-up in the talent show but that didn't discourage her from pursuing her dreams as an actor. In 2001, just after completing Achimota Preparatory, Jackie Appiah received her breakthrough when she was invited by Edward Seddoh Junior, the writer of a new television series, 'Things We Do for Love' as a cast member. She had a regular role as the adorable and innocent, Enyonam Blagogee and warmed her way into the hearts of viewers across Ghana. The series which was aimed at sexual reproductive health education also earned Jackie her first TV Commercial when she starred in the Ghana Social Marketing Foundation (GSMF) commercial on protection against HIV/AIDS. 'Things We Do for Love' ran on TV for three years and Jackie combined her role with her School education in General Arts at Harvard College in Accra. In 2004 she received her first movie role, a lead role in 'Divine Love', directed by Jayke Aernan and starring Majid Michel and Van Vicker. In 2007, her acting went beyond the shores of Ghana when she received her first role in Nigeria in 'Sleep Walker' starring Genevieve Nnaji and Ramsey Noah. Jackie Appiah has since appeared in a myriad of movies including Beyonce, The Return of Beyonce, Princess Tyra, Passion and Soul, 4play, 4play Reloaded, The King Is Mine, Perfect Picture, Death after Birth, Stigma, and Prince's Bride. In 2012 Jackie also reached another milestone in her career when she received a leading role in 'Turning Point' a Hollywood/Nollywood drama film written and directed by Niyi Towolawi, starring Jackie Appiah, K.D. Aubert, Todd Bridges, Ernie Hudson, Patience Ozokwor and others. The acting talent of Jackie Appiah has been recognized with several honours, nominations and awards in Ghana, Africa and in the Diaspora. Her awards include African Movie Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for 'Beyonce' (2007), Arts Critics and Reviewers Association of Ghana (ACRAG) Award for Best Actress (2007), African Movie Academy Award Best Actress in a Leading Role for 'Perfect Picture' (2010), Ghana Movie Awards Best Actress in a Leading Role for '4play' 2010,Best Pan-African Actress (2011), and City People's Entertainment Awards for Best Ghanaian Actress (2010). Jackie Appiah is also the ambassador for several brands including IPMC,UB Hair Relaxer, Class Perfumes, and Globacom Telecommunications. She has one son. The actress always identify a group of needy to celebrity her birthday or Christmas with every year. She does donation with what she earns for the year to a lot of organization including: korle bu Teaching Hospital, Chosen Rehab Center, Dzorwulu Special School, Osu Children's Home and TV3 Talented Kids
