Cody Ray Thompson was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. He later moved to Calgary, where he attended the University of Calgary, graduating in 2011 with a Bachelor of Humanities in Philosophy (with distinction) and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama (also with distinction). He also attended the National Voice Intensive in 2011 led by David Smukler and Judith Koltai.He received an internship at Vertigo Theatre right out of school, performing in 'Dangerous Corner' and 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street'.
